Recently, the national final of the Technological Innovation Event of the 2026 Belt and Road & BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Competition was held in Xiamen. The work A Great Smile — Immersive Oral Science Popularization Interactive Model, completed by students Qian Jiaqi, Yu Tianhao and Xiao Yantao under the guidance of Wei Xinshu, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Imaging and Medical Product Management, School of Health and Medical Technology of our university, stood out in the Virtual Simulation and Metaverse Track with solid technical strength and innovative solutions, and won the first prize (Gold Award) in the national final.

This competition was co-hosted by the Chinese Council of the BRICS Business Council, the Belt and Road & BRICS Skills Development International Alliance, and the Belt and Road & BRICS Skills Development and Technological Innovation Training Center. A total of 561 institutions registered, 1,945 projects were submitted, and 703 projects advanced to the national finals.

The award-winning work closely aligns with the national policy orientation of healthy oral care, addressing industry pain points such as insufficient public awareness of oral health, shortage of grassroots science popularization resources, and weak experience of traditional science popularization models. With virtual simulation technology as the core, the work builds an immersive oral science popularization training platform, covers the science popularization needs of all groups through five core functions, and provides an innovative solution for oral health science popularization.
