Recently, in TeachingBuilding A11, many desks, chairs, works were moved in one after the other. Fordays the teachers and the students of Department of Digital Arts stayed busywith them. Finally, in May 19th breathtakingly debuted all the woks, which are graduation projects of the Digital Arts Department in 2016.
While stepping intothe different exhibition areas for different majors, you can see a superb collection of the works. It was understoodthat all of 436 graduates from 5majors participated in the exhibition, whose works involve animation, movie and television, games, design and software development. This graduation project exhibition was both for graduation works and for theachievement all attained from the 4-year study in the university.
The works were mainlyexhibited in the electronic way and partially with real objects. Especially,106 projects of all are real ones, some of which are from the enterpriseprojects, and some even from students’ entrepreneurial projects.
Quite a few keep thepace with the cutting-edge of science and technology. The students’ excellentinnovative entrepreneurship achievement made you absolutely overwhelmed. Let’ssee and appreciate them together.
Take the graduationprojects to start up business
In the exhibition, ablue exhibition area attracted all attention. It was the works of the graduate,Guo Xiao, named ‘Visual Image Design and Production for All Brands’, which was inspiredby his entrepreneurship ideas—All-Living-Being Bookstore. He is planning tobuild it as a physical store, running it both online and offline.
“Printed media are waning and fading, whilethe network media are rising prosperously, consequently how does the physicalbookstore transform the business practice? Based on this idea, the image designfor the All-Living-Being bookstore was devised integrally. Also throughscanning QR code, many innovative ideas are converted into reality, such as exchangingideas about the articles, listening to music, watching movies and TV andstoring pictures, all in real-time. In the long run, I am going to take the VIdesign of All-Living-Being bookstore as the intermediary, connecting printed media with network media.” Guo Xiao said.
Not far from thebooth of Guo Xiao, was a nice flower shop. It was a graduation work by Tian Xinli. She intends to run a flower shop after graduation and she has already chosen aplace for the shop near Dalian Digital Square to start up her own business. Shehas designed her own packing box, which is easy to carry and can maintain theflowers fresh for long because of the water storage in the bottom of the box.In the future, she would like to increase more business like flower arrangementand tailor-made household decorative flowers and the like.
Likewise, there weresome real projects conducted by the student entrepreneurs. For example, Wang Yuhanregistered and started up his own company called Shenyang Jizhi Science & TechnologyCo., LTD, whose graduation work was a trailer for intelligent kitchens producedby DaMi Technology. The graduation project is also an entrepreneurship project. When students accomplish their graduation projects, in the meanwhile, theycomplete the design and exhibition of entrepreneurship programs.
Graduation projectswere originated from real enterprise projects
Weibo’s graduation project, originated from Dalian Bomai Science &Technology Co. LTD. was called ‘PlantResources and Chemistry Application Simulation’. He said: “With the increase ofcompetition in the society, the gradual development of industry and the risinglevel of medical technology, we have to constantly adapt to the new changes in demand. My project employs 3D animation to display the whole process of the highperformance liquid chromatography separation and the theoretical knowledge, sothat the operation principles of the products can be demonstratedstraightforward.
Likewise, Xia Zhiweiand Yang Chengchuan did the same. Their graduation works, ‘Antiquity’ and‘Formless and Void’, are the outsourcing project given by Shenyang Light andShadow Studio. They respectively drew sketches and 3 views for a set of magicalgame characters.
The graduation workswere not only examined by the teachers, but also were tested and approved bythe enterprises, which makes the students know the real market demands whenthey are still in the university.
All the graduation projectsare so tight down to the cutting-edge of technologies.
In the exhibition ofthe graduation projects, there were many works of much technology and the kindof cutting edge of the industry, such as VR, 3D printers, light techniques andthe like.
Pi Yujie’s work, named ‘Design and Implementation of 3D Printers Based on Arduino DevelopmentEnvironment’, was designed on account of the structure of RepRap Prusa i3 andthe technological theory of FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) rapid prototyping. The performance of the 3D printer was improved effectively through the formidableexpansibility and compatibility of Arduino. In the meanwhile, the appearancedesign for the printer by her promotes the market space for 3D printers.
The work by Ren Zimu, named ‘The Dance of Light and Shadow’, showed the dazzling and transformabledance of light and shadow, which overwhelmed you by the beauty of thecutting-edge technology.
In order to fullypromote the reformation of innovation and entrepreneurship and help studentspass the assessment of the graduation projects to consolidate their knowledgeacquired in the university, the Work Committee for Graduation Project inDigital Arts Department began to study and work on the teaching reformativemeasures for graduation projects. The department conducted a survey of manyuniversities, such as Academy of Arts of Tsinghua University,Central Academy of Fine Arts, Dalian Polytechnic University, LiaoningNormal University. By modifying the form of assessment for graduation projects, students can concentrate themselves on works display and increase more inquality of the projects in the test, which can constantly encourage thestudents to keep innovating and improve the awareness and capability ofinnovation and entrepreneurship.
This year, theDigital Arts Department has made exploration and reformation on the procedureof testing graduation projects. The Deputy Dean of the Department Li Shuhua said,“We assigned only one teacher to check and assess the students’ graduationprojects before, but now we have 3+1 teachers to fulfil the work, 3 of whom areprofessional (academic) advisors from different majors and one is an expertfrom enterprises. The expert group of assessing project achievement is composedof them (no less than 3 people, one from the enterprise). The experts’assessment performance accounts for 30%, the performance of displaying theproject for 40% and the graduation project defense for 30%. Our assessment areall going on account of the criteria.”
“Every piece of work, from conception, design, production to the final exhibition arrangement, embodied the sweat and endeavorof the teachers and students. The expert from the enterprise also spoke highlyto the works during the assessment. Through this exhibition of graduationprojects, the students fully cultivated their practical skills and innovativeability, which help students set a solid foundation for their future career.”
