Started Excellent Courses Show and Carried out Course Teaching Reformation

On September 13, 2007, NII held the First Lesson of Core Major Courses demonstration show. Present at the show are Vice President, Pro Cao Yunfeng; Vice President, Pro. Zhang Wei, President Consultant Pro. Qi Zhiru and related leaders; leaders of all departments and more than 200 teachers who had no classes on that afternoon. This activity was organized by Academic Affairs Department and presided over by Mr. Zhang Tao, Director of Academic Affairs Department and Department of Fundamental Courses Show the charm of teaching and establish the platform of teaching demonstration This activity aimed at establishing a platform for communication and studying through model class demonstration; thus teachers could further explore the course content and reformation of teaching methods and achieve the purpose of reinforcing the development of major core course which was assumed to stimulate the development of other courses so that the teaching standard of the whole institute could be lifted to a new level. The core task of teaching was to innovate teaching contents and methods, and improve teaching level and quality. For this purpose, at the beginning of this semester, NII held a seminar with the theme of strengthening teaching administration and carrying out teaching quality guarantee system. In this meeting, Vice President Cao Yunfeng proposed three important tasks for this semester. One of these tasks was to strengthen the building of major core courses and clearly raised twelve requirements for this task, including organizing the first lesson of major core courses demonstration show. For implementing the spirits of the conference, Academic Affairs Department issued the notice of “About Carrying out the First Lesson of Major Core Courses Teaching Activity”, every department actively organized their own teachers to carry out the demonstration show activities of the First Lesson by group lesson preparation, teaching demonstration, and experience communication, which produced prominent results. On the foundation of this, recommended by each department and decided by the institute, four teachers who sufficiently prepared and had good teaching results and the meaning of demonstration in the department demonstration show activity were selected to make public teaching demonstration show in the school which built a widened platform of interactive communication and learning. On November 13th, the First Lesson of Core Major Courses’ demonstration show was convened as scheduled. The four teachers in this activity were from Japanese Department, Department of Information Technology and Business Administration, Department of Embedded System Engineering, and Department of Computer Science and Technology, and respectively they were Jiang Ni, Qu Yunlong, Yuan Chuanlin, and Liangwei. In the teaching demonstration of the First Lesson, four teachers showed us four excellent “The First Lesson” with flexible and diversified forms of teaching, perfect course design and inspiring and guiding teaching methods which brought the happiness of learning and thinking. Zhang Tao, Director of Department of Fundamental Courses said with the emotion: “Lessons of teaching demonstration show, every one is a good lesson and every one is a competitive high-quality course”. After the demonstration teaching, leaders of institute, directors of departments and other leaders awarded them the certificate of honor to commend their efforts on teaching reformation of courses and outstanding performance in this activity. Summarize the excellent experience to improve the quality of teaching together With the success of this activity, Professor Chao Yunfeng, Vice President of the institute, addressed the rousing speech in the conclusion of this activity and pointed out that the demonstration teaching lessons of the four teachers answered the two questions of What kind of lesson is the best lesson and what kind of teacher is the most popular with the students. He also said that there was much common in their teaching methods that we could make use of. The First Lessons of the four teachers firstly answered the question of “why do we study this lesson? ” and they also introduced the position and function of this course in the major, introduced the influence of this course in the specialty courses system and told the influence of the courses on the students’ career development in the future. Secondly, according to the requirements of teaching outline syllabus of this course, they briefly introduced the question of “what will we learn from this course?”, then, associated with the nature of the course, introduced the teaching method of “How to learn this course well?” and introduced the content structure, key points, and difficult points of this course. Thirdly, four teachers emphasized the basic requirements of this course, explicated the test mode, achievements evaluation (the proportion of Attendance, Class Performance, Experimental Marks, Ordinary Marks, Middle-Term Exam Marks and Final Exam Marks in the final marks), and the requirements of class discipline (the requirements of using laptop). In addition, every teacher respectively gave the basic teaching information of this course: basic information of teachers (Office, Ways of Contact, E-mail, ect.) and other relevant basic information of the course (Name of the Course, Nature of the Course, Credit Hours of the Course, Textbooks, Reference Books and the Teaching Website, etc.) Vice President Cao pointed out that “The First Class” of these four teachers carried out eight combinations: the combination of teaching content impartation and the specific ability training target for the students; the combination of course study and career development goals; the combination of course teaching and construction of study style, examination discipline as well as school spirit, the combination of course teaching and teaching new technology, new knowledge and theory together with the new trend of the major; the combination of conducting the class and informing the students of teaching method reform in this course; the combination of course teaching and life philosophy and civilization quality education; combination of course teaching and guiding the student to love their major; the combination of overall requirement of teaching reform and the practical teaching in the teaching process. Their experiences were worth complete summarizing as well as promoting. The reform of teaching content and teaching method was therefore promoted and deepened. This sets a good example for improving the teaching quality. Finally, Vice President Cao showed his appreciation to the four teachers and encouraged and called on all the teachers to learn from them and began with conducting the first class well. The new teachers should try to conduct their first class in their career lives well. The experienced teachers should try to conduct the first class of newly established courses well. Every teacher should strive to conduct first class very well and conduct every class well as well as work hard to make our institute a top practice-oriented IT college at home with an international reputation.
