The "Gezhi Cup" speech contest focuses on training students to speak in public, and aims to "cultivate people, enhance literary competence, and foster patriotism". This year, 16 contestants from different schools of DNUI (including the School of Computer, the School of Software, the School of Information and Business Management, the School of Intelligence and Electronic Engineering, the School of Digital Arts and Design, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Healthcare Technology and the School of Continuing Education) shared their perception and experiences of patriotism, youth and dream. Their speeches were delivered in the form of impassioned lyrics or eloquent arguments, centered on unforgettable stories and mental experiences in the process of pursuing dreams.

The speech contest, which combines the Outcomes-based Education philosophy with the "online-offline-practice" multi-classroom blended teaching model, is a practice project of the Communication and Speech Course. The contest is widely recognized and praised after the course has won the titles of Resource Sharing Course of Liaoning Province, National Excellent Video Open Course, Pilot Course for Cross-School Credits of Liaoning Province, and First-Class Undergraduate Course of Liaoning Province. The course, which was available in 2014 on the "iCourse" online platform of the Ministry of Education, has a total of 370,000 viewers and 120,000 messages by now, ranking fifth in terms of the two figures. Eight universities in Liaoning Province have selected this course for cross-school study, including Dongbei University of Finance and Economics, Shenyang Normal University, Liaoning Normal University, etc. More than 1,000 students have been awarded cross-school credits upon completing this course.
