2019 International Summer Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice Project Officially Launched

June 24, 2019 is the first day of the practical semester. After the busyexam week, DNUI is quietly waiting for a group of friends who are coming acrossthe ocean—they are from Australia, Russia and Kuwait. They were going toparticipate in the International Innovation Entrepreneurship training programof 2019 Start-up China held at our school.

At 9:30 in the morning on the first day of the program, after having breakfast,the overseas students walked through the Students Square, and visited thelibrary and the school of Digital Arts and Design Exhibition Hall under theguidance of Ms. Zhao Wenting and a student assistant, who come from theInternational Exchange and Cooperation Department. Standing on the observationdeck of the library, the beautiful scenery of the school is unobstructed. Ms.Zhao Wenting also introduced the history of our school at the library. In the“Digital Spring” arts exhibition, students experienced a variety of interactiveart installations. Teacher Ding Zongchao introduced the exhibition hall of theSchool of Digital Arts and Design.

At 11 A.M., the opening ceremony was held in the Lecture Hall A2-330. TheStart-up China Program lasted for one month. A total of 44 university students,two foreign professors and ten teachers from our school participated, including26 students from the University of Queensland in Australia, two from theNational Institute of Information Technology and Optics in St. Petersburg,Russia, and two from Australian college in Kuwait and 14 from DNUI.

Rong Yidan, Dean of the School of International Education, presided overthe opening ceremony. Mr. Chen Yibai, Consul General of the AustralianConsulate in Shenyang, Consul Bai Yuxuan, Ms. Yu Dan, Chief Representative ofthe School of Information and Business Management, Professor Paul Strooper ofthe University of Queensland, Australia, Guo Quan, Vice President of DalianNeusoft University of Information attended the ceremony. Deng Shan, Dean of theSchool of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Yu Dan, a teacher of the School ofInformation and Business Management, and Peng Zhihao, a teacher of the Schoolof Computer and Software, attended the conference.

Vice President Guo Quan gave a welcome speech. Guo introduced theachievements of our school and the international exchanges. He also reviewed thecooperation between our university and the University of Queensland and raisedardent hopes for the students who participated in this project.

Then came the favorite Paul’s Speech time. As an old friend of our school,Professor Paul Strooper has come to our school for the fourth time, which ishis third year as a teacher at the University of Queensland. He first reviewedhis many exchange experiences with Dalian Neusoft University of Information andintroduced the importance of the Start-up China program to the University ofQueensland.

Gabriel Lippiatt, a student from the University of Queensland, spoke onbehalf of all foreign students, summarizing their personal feelings and hopesin short words, and expressed the hope that they could use their innovativespirit and apply them to practice.

Li Zhengyang, a student representative from our school, also gave a speech.He described his expectations for this event in a clear and concise manner. Hehoped that he could improve his ability in all aspects in this short month andlook forward to learning from each other and making friends.

Finally, Mr. Chen Yibai, Consul General of the Australian Consulate inShenyang, made a concluding speech. He first introduced the main work of theShenyang Consulate and affirmed the importance of the Northeast region toAustralia's economic and trade relations. “As the largest port hub in theNortheast, Dalian is the most vibrant city in the Northeast. This beautifulcity is worthy of experience and hang around.” Finally, he wished the program acomplete success, and both Chinese and foreign students could gain a lot.

After taking a group photo at the South Gate, Chinese and foreign studentsvisited SOVO. Afternoon city tours are held after lunch. Dalian in June justentered the summer, but the sun is bright but not hot. Many foreign studentscame to Dalian the day before, and there was no time to tour around thisbeautiful seaside city . The afternoon sightseeing made everyone very excited.

It is reported that since 2016, from June to July every year, our schoolwill hold an international summer innovation and entrepreneurship practiceproject, namely the Start-up China project. Start-up China includes three modules:innovation and entrepreneurship project training, Chinese language training andChinese culture courses. Students from both our school and abroad mix and buildteams, based on the requirements of the "Internet +" big topic,choose a field to propose ideas in a team, and under the guidance of ourteachers, complete the three-level jump of "creativity - products -commodities"in four weeks, and finally form a virtual company and hold a "productrelease" to complete the credit assessment. In addition, foreign studentswill complete Chinese language training and Chinese culture courses. In thespare time, Chinese and foreign students participate in cultural activities,technical lectures, corporate visits, city tours and other activities to fullydemonstrate the unique charm of Chinese culture.
