On the morning of May 19th, the launching ceremony of Dalian Science and Technology Week in 2019 was held in the south gate square of our university, sponsored by Dalian Science and Technology Bureau, Propaganda Department of Dalian Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Dalian Science and Technology Association, and undertaken by Dalian Neusoft University of Information and Dalian High-tech Zone Management Committee. Zhang Zhihong, Deputy Mayor of Dalian Municipal People's Government, Li Feng, Director of the Science and Education Committee of Dalian Municipal People's Congress, Yu Liping, Director of the Science and Education Committee of Dalian Municipal CPPCC, Party Secretary and Director Gao Dabin of Dalian Science and Technology Bureau, Party Secretary of Dalian Science and Technology Association, Vice Chairman Yang Daigang, Deputy Inspector of the Propaganda Department of the Dalian Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China Feng Yunsheng, Deputy Director of the High-tech Park Management Committee Sun Longye, Yuan Chi, Party Secretary of the university, President Wen Tao, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Ren Hao attended the ceremony. More than 500 people including representatives of enterprises and popular science bases as well as citizens attended the event. Jiang Sijin, Inspector of Dalian Science and Technology Bureau, presided over the ceremony.

Deputy Secretary Ren Biao delivered a speech at the launching ceremony. He pointed out that colleges and universities are the main carriers for disseminating scientific knowledge and carrying out scientific and technological innovation. Strengthening the construction of popular science bases and continuously improving the scientific literacy of teachers and students and the general public is the social responsibility of Dalian Neusoft Institute of Information.

The Science and Technology Activity Week is a large-scale mass science and technology activity approved by the State Council. In his speech, Vice Mayor Zhang Zhihong emphasized the important role of the Science and Technology Week in improving the scientific awareness and scientific literacy of the whole people and inspiring the vitality of innovation and entrepreneurship in the whole society. This year, the National Science and Technology Week was themed on “Science and Technology Innovation, Science Popularization”. During the event, Dalian City will carry out rich activities around the construction of Dalian National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone, and strive to create a popular science feast for all citizens.

At the launching ceremony, the city leaders awarded the eight municipal science popularization bases selected in 2018. The Science Media Base of the New Media Art Interactive Experience Exhibition Hall of Dalian Neusoft University of Information is one of the evaluated units. Yu Qingjun, Dean of the School of Digital Arts and Design, accepted the award on behalf of the university. During the Science and Technology Week, our university will also display rich features such as animation, film and television, new media design, cultural products, ceramics, sculpture, VR interactive, AR products, 3D printing, game development, installation art, and simulation projects. The results will be carried out in a variety of science and technology and cultural exchange activities such as thematic science education, mobile science popularization and cultural exchange activities.

After the launching ceremony, Vice Mayor Zhang Zhihong and his delegation accompanied by the Party Secretary and the President of the university, Wen Tao, and the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Ren Hao, visited the approved science base and entrepreneurial base and incubator. Vice Mayor Zhang Zhihong listened carefully to the original works and entrepreneurship project reports of teachers and students of our university, praised the works as “having professional level” and recognized the strong innovation and entrepreneurship atmosphere and the vivid and rich campus culture of our university.

The university’s popular science base project has also been recognized by the general public. Ms. Liu said: “The activities are very well organized. We also visited the labs and learned about the R&D process behind the technology, which broadened our horizons.” Mr. Shi of Dalian Baishengyuan Technology Co., Ltd. said: “This is the first time I came to Dalian Neusoft University of Information; I feel that the university's architectural style is unique, and the laboratory is also very large. It can be seen that the university pays great attention to cultivating students' scientific and technological innovation ability. The Science and Technology Week is meaningful and can enhance the awareness of technological innovation among more people.”
