Students from DNUI Won the Third Prize of Chinese College Students Microfilm Competition in the 7th Vancouver (International) Chinese Film Festival

On April 29th, 2019, the 7th Vancouver (International) Chinese Film Festival-Chinese College Students Microfilm Competition was held in Chongqing. Directed by Yu Zhong, teacher from the Department of Television Photography and Production of the School of Digital Arts and Design of our school, the team of Tian Tian, Zhang Yufei and Zheng Wenyu, from Grade 2015 of the Department of Television Photography and Production, won the third prize of the experimental short film category with the work “Malicious”. The team of Wei Zhenfeng, Hu Qiwen and Zhao Chenjun from Grade 2015 of the Department of Television Photography and Production won the award for excellence with the work "Monkey and Typewriter". Our school and the Beijing Film Academy, Beijing Normal University, Sichuan University of Media and Communications and other schools won the Best Organization Award. This is the second award won in international competitions after winning the second prize of drama films in the 7th International College Student Microfilm Festival in 2018.

The Organizing Committee of the Competition considered that the work "Malicious" of the third prize has a profound theme, pays attention to social hot issues, closely follows the pulse of the times, and is of rich film and television language skills, solid storytelling script and unique artistic stylization. It is a very good experimental short film. This work was conceived in September 2018. After continuous editing, discussion, revision, selection of actors, pre-production and post-production, the work was completed in 7 months.

The Vancouver (international) Chinese Film Festival is a non-profit international Chinese film festival registered and officially established by the BC provincial government in Canada. The film festival was hosted by the Organizing Committee of the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival and co-organized by the Canadian International Mingmei Media-Film and Television Arts Communication Center. The film festival has received strong support from the Canadian three-level government and the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver. CCTV Overseas Channel, Phoenix TV, Sina.com and other media have been paying close attention to the festival’s development and carrying out in-depth coverage. After six successful sessions, The Vancouver (International) Chinese Film Festival has become one of the most recognized overseas Chinese film festivals.

From January 2019, the contest has begun to collect works. It set up 4 units of drama films, cartoons, documentaries and experimental short films, and more than 40 awards. It has received entries from more than 70 universities, such as Beijing Film Academy, Beijing Normal University, Nanjing University of the Arts, Chongqing University, etc. After the initial review, initial evaluation and final evaluation by the judges of the senior film festivals at home and abroad, a total of 24 outstanding works won the excellence award. The works won the first, second and third prizes will be directly promoted to the main competition “Red Maple Leaf Award” of the 7th Vancouver (International) Chinese Film Festival, and could have the opportunity to be recommended to Canada to attend the 7th Vancouver (International) Chinese Film Festival.
