All the six teams from DNUI were awarded with prizes in the 11st “Siemens Cup” Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge (China). One of the teams, guided by Ju Ernan and Zhang Shuang from the Electronic Engineering Department, won the second national prize in the Logic Control Design and Development Section. The other five teams received one grand prize, one first prize, two second prizes and one third prize in the section of Logic Control Application and Implementation at the provincial level of Liaoning.

Originally known as “Siemens Cup” Industrial Automation Challenge of National College Students and now Siemens Cup China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge, the contest is one that is held at the national level. It is co-sponsored by the Teaching Guidance Commission of the Automation Category of Higher Learning Institutions of the Education Ministry, Siemens (China) and Chinese Association of System Simulation, according to the  agreement for strategic cooperation framework and its memorandum (2011-2021) signed by the Education Ministry and Siemens (China). The event, as an innovative engineering science competition, aims to simulate the typical industrial automation systems and targets college students majoring in automation, mechatronics and other related programs. Since its launch in 2006, it has gained support from over 400 institutions of higher learning nationwide, developing into one of the leading competitions for college students in the field of industrial automation in mainland China. The 2017 event featured three groups, being Design & Development, Application & Implement and Innovative Development. 341 teams from nearly 140 colleges and universities made their ways into the finals.
