The China Northeast Division (including the provinces of Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, and Inner Mongolia) of the 11th National “NXP” Cup Smart Car Contest for College Students (formerly known as the “Freescale” Smart Car Contest, officially renamed in 2016 as the "NXP" Cup Smart Car Contest) was held in the gymnasium of Northeast Forestry University from 20th to 23rd of July, 2016. A total of 20 students, composed of six teams, from the Department of Electronic Engineering of DNUI took part in the contest. After three days of intense competition, all the six teams won prizes. One of them won the First Prize, another one won the Second, three of them won the Third, and the last one won the Excellence Prize. The participating students set the best record for DNUI in recent years no matter in the number of winning groups or the number of winners. The team for electromagnetic upright (named: Team 9 of DNUI) won the First Prize of the Northeast Division, which made a historic breakthrough. On behalf of the Northeast Division, this team participated in the national finals, which was held on August 17th in Changsha. In the finals, the team ranked top 22 among the 52 participating teams and won the Second Prize. In addition, the team for camera won the Second Prize, the team for electric rails and the team for two pairs of cars chasing won the Third Prize, and the team Optoelectronics won the Excellence Prize in the Northeast Division Contest.

The National “NXP” Cup Smart Car Contest for College Students is a scientific and technological contest funded a by national teaching quality and reform program of the Ministry of Education. It is a comprehensive contest covering many fields such as control, pattern recognition, sensing technology, electronics, electrical, computer and machinery.

A total of nearly 1,000 teachers and students in 190 teams from 46 colleges and universities including Harbin Institute of Technology, Northeastern University, Jilin University, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian Maritime University, Inner Mongolia University, etc. participating in the Northeast Division Contest.
