Good afternoon, dear teachers and fellow students:

Today, we are here to celebrate the opening ceremony for the freshmen of 2016 and award ceremony of 2015-2016. On behalf of all teachers and students of DNUI, I would like to extend a warm welcome to 3869 new students from 29 provinces and cities in the country and 649 students from Russia, Korea, and Japan. I would like to extend my sincere greetings to your parents and teachers. At the same time, I would also like to express my heartfelt congratulations to rewarded classes and individuals.

Fellow students, you do have your own imagination and expectations for the next four years of university life when you received the letter of admission. After military training and orientation education, I believe you are able to use your own way to perceive, to find, to involve and experience the unique charm of Dalian Neusoft University of Information.

In the past 16 years since its establishment, based on the philosophy of “education creates students’ value”, DNUI has formed a mechanism of college enterprise cooperation and win-win cooperation with the construction of the running system of the integration of production and education and the application-integrated learning. DNUI has proposed creatively and implemented TOPCARES-CDIO integrated innovative talent training mode, which is committed to cultivating high-level application-oriented talents with a sense of social responsibility, the spirit of innovation, international vision and strong practical ability. DNUI has cultivated more than 40,000 graduates for the society with the employment rate of more than 90% every year. There are many outstanding alumni in all walks of life and the quality of talent cultivation is widely recognized by employers and social circles. Not long ago, our school was approved by the Ministry of Education to be one of the first 50 model universities of innovation and entrepreneurship.

This November, DNUI will welcome the undergraduate teaching assessment by the Ministry of Education. During the process of promotion and construction, DNUI has continuously strengthened the construction and reform and improved students’ learning and living environment. At the same time, it also strengthens the basic construction of teaching and deepens the teaching reform in education. Compared to those senior alumni graduates, you can feel the rapid changes of DNUI more profoundly: The new gymnasium with a total construction area of nearly 10,000 square meters has been completed. A number of modernized new laboratories have been put into use. Classrooms, dormitories, roads, basketball courts, and fitness center have been completely renovated. The renovation of the dining room and bath of apartment phase II has been completed. The construction of campus environment and culture in teaching buildings, libraries and other areas is proceeding in an orderly manner.

Fellow students, you have embarked on a dream trip to the University. Each of you may have thought about how to spend a colorful university life, as a president and a teacher who is concerned about your growth, I would like to share the following experience with you:

Firstly, we should set a goal and pursue your dream bravely. Students create value to the society by achieving their dreams, which is the greatest value for the school. The TOPCARES-CDIO talent training mode fully reflects the "greatest care" that DNUI offers students – being concerned about students’ individual growth, focusing on the integrated cultivation of students’ knowledge, ability, and quality, helping you set goals, realize your dreams and achieve the value of the school. With higher requirements, clearer goals and more practical efforts, I hope students will work hard with DNUI to cherish youth, reveal youth vigor, sway youth pride and pursue your dream bravely.

Secondly, t study hard and think creatively. In the information age, the traditional way of university education and learning is being subverted. Only by studying diligently and thinking creatively will you be able to adapt to the rapid changing of the future world. I hope that you can make full use of the flexible learning environment based on 4A (Anytime, Anywhere, Anyway, Any content), follow the "new theory, new technology, new tools, new applications and new products" in the industry and continue to update your knowledge structure with diligence and determination. In fact, contemporary people face overload information and knowledge fragmentation. Fragmented reading tend to make people lose the ability of active thinking and autonomous exploration. I hope you will learn to read with meditation and often go to the library to read books you are interested in autonomously and completely. Make yourself a person with passion, interests and good thoughts by reading and thinking.

Thirdly, we must dare to innovate and pursue excellence. DNUI is the university with genes for innovation and entrepreneurship. Since the establishment of DNUI, SOVO has been founded to explore the characteristics of innovation and entrepreneurship education, which has been involved, into the whole process of talent cultivation. With the integration of professional education, our innovation and entrepreneurship education lay the foundation for sustainable development of life-long quality education. I hope your "Maker" genes can be motivated and activated through the continuous efforts of the school, which will cultivate your innovative thinking, entrepreneurship awareness, innovation and entrepreneurship spirit and ability. In the next four years, I believe you, just like those senior alumni, will come up with more creative ideas, participate extensively in innovation and entrepreneurship activities and harvest growth in innovation practice during the process of learning universal courses.

Fourthly, we must keep doing exercises and strengthen physical quality. Healthy body is the basis of learning, the guarantee for future success and a happy life and the most precious fortune in life. Plato, an ancient Greek philosopher, once said: “We must keep the balance between physical education and intellectual education.” University teaches you more than professional knowledge and skills. At the same time, I hope you are able to develop a good habit of life and sports, maintain a regular and healthy lifestyle, and cultivate a strong will in physical exercise. I expect to see your sweat figures in sports exercises rather than indulging in playing games in the dormitory. I also hope you can step into the society with a healthy body to meet the challenges of the future four years later.
