Distinguished leaders, teachers and dear students, good afternoon.

I’m honored to have the opportunity to stand here and welcome the new students of 2016 on behalf of the faculty of Dalian Neusoft University of Information.

In this wonderful season, you, who are vigorous, entered “Great DNUI”, who is vigorous as well. I can tell from your dark skin how special on earth the experience of the past few days was to you. Many of you expressed it as “bitter, painful and miserable”. Every time I hear this, I can’t restrain my pleasure for I know that you have already set forth on the journey of self-molding. “Self-molding”, which is just the keyword I would like to share with you today, will accompany your future study life all the time.

You may inevitably feel a little bit confused and uncertain in college when the feeling of freshness has faded away. In terms of specific details, someone may feel that college life is not as exciting as you have expected, and some courses which you have looked forward to at first may sometimes turn out to be boring. Teacher Haitao, who is called as “god” by seniors, appears to be just an ordinary guy. From greater aspects, with too many thoughts shocking our values among the change of times, something I have always taken for granted seems not that right any more. What on earth should we do since the distance between ideal and reality is confusing? Should we stay in a comfortable place and enjoy as long as we live, or should we accumulate persistently in the journey of knowledge-seeking and growing-up till we see the light? Should we leave the decisions secretly made before we entered the university behind, or should we keep the passion, ideal, determination and pursuit in life?

On our campus, faculty are carrying the exact responsibilities of finding the correct answers to these questions. Teachers’ propagating the doctrine and imparting professional knowledge means that they pass on knowledge, cultivate abilities, improve skills and create values. Resolving doubts, on the other hand, is a feeling and transformation from following the crowd to an internal awakening. Listen carefully, feel attentively, something will settle down in your mind, which will help develop independent personality and build a better you in college.

In the current information age, you can mold yourself at any time in any place and share studying resources with someone in the world. Anyone who has the ideals will all have the rights and opportunity to study equally. And do you, holding the expectations of your families and great trust of our country and society, have the excuses to evade, escape and hold back? This is not enough. We do not call our university “Great DNUI” just for fun. Its “greatness” means not the large area, nor the first character “Da” of the name of our city Dalian, which refers to big in Chinese, it means the great mind and ambition of teachers and students of DNUI instead. “Innovation” is the best interpretation of the word “Greatness”. Beginning with the first teacher and students of DNUI, DNUIers have always marked our footprints in an unpopulated road and dared to be a pioneer despite the bumpy ride.

After today’s school opening ceremony, you will become a member of DNUI officially. Dare to step forward with your dreams. I believe, every one of you will take the responsibilities of the challenges and opportunities, duties and missions given to you.

Currently, China is in its flourishing age rarely seen in history, not inferior to the Tang Dynasty, nor the Kang-Qian heyday. My working experience in Japan International Cooperation Agency made me clearly realize that China is playing games on its own with competitors such as the United States, the European Union, Japan, South Korea, ASEAN and so on, and she is gaining more and more powerful rights to speak in the political and economic system of the world. The rise of China provides you with the best stage in life. The wonderful paintings are waiting to be drawn by your youth!

In the end, I hope that every one of you will be fearless, not afraid of failures, and not refuse to change in the way of self-molding. I wish to share with you as an encouragement that to be decent, down to earth and persistent.
