On the afternoon of September 23, Dalian Neusoft University of Information held its 2016 School Opening Ceremony for freshmen and its awards ceremony for the academic year of 2015-2016 in Sanqi Stadium. A total of 3869 new students from 29 provinces across the country and 64 new students from Russia, Korea, Japan and other countries donned new school uniforms and gathered here to witness the formal beginning of their university life. President Wen Tao, Vice President Guo Quan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Ren Hao, Chief Financial Officer Chao Yujun and Vice President Zhao Bo all enthusiastically came to share this special moment with the new students. The ceremony commended 8 "Pilot Classes", 24 "Advanced Classes", 310 "Merit Students", 434 "Excellent Student Leaders" and the Top Ten Students.

A total of 37 international students were awarded scholarships for studying in China, while 312 students were awarded the Neusoft Yida Enterprise Scholarship. The highest honor of the university- the Huatian Scholarship- was awarded to five students, namely, Zhang Chao from class 13001 of Network Engineering major in the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Liu shengyi from microelectronics class 14001 in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Hu xuejiao from class 13005 of Information Management, Zhang mincong from class 13002 of Business Logistics Management and Liu Jinwei from class 14002 of the Visualization major in the Digital Arts Department. The awards were presented to the recipients by the aforementioned university leadership.

Digital Media Technology major Xin Lutong of the Department of Digital Arts and Logistics Engineering major Zhang Mincong of the Department of Business Management represented the freshmen of 2016 and the award-winning students, respectively, as they delivered speeches to share their reflections on the university experience and the new journey ahead, and give their best wishes to freshmen for excelling in self-development and work hard towards the imminent national educational assessment contributing to the university construction .

On the day of the ceremony, Zhou Hairan, a 2006 graduate of Computer Science and Technology Department (CEO of Dalian Master Lu Ocean Food Co., Ltd. and Dalian Changhai Aquaculture Co.), returned to his alma mater to speak on behalf of the Neusoft alumni. He shared insights from his days as a university student and an entrepreneur, and expressed his best wishes for new students as they embark on four years of great learning and refinement of practical skills.

Dr. Liu Haitao, Director of the Financial Management Team of the Department of Information Management, represented the teaching faculty of Neusoft as he delivered a speech encouraging the new generation to take advantage of the convenience handed to us by the Information Age, always persevere in pursuing one’s dreams, rise to challenges and opportunities, take up the mantle of responsibility and never lose one’s sense of mission.

President Wen Tao also took to the podium, warmly welcoming the new students assembled and his expounding upon his great hopes for them. President Wen Tao outlined the achievements of Neusoft over the past 16 years and detailed the results of preparing for the national Assessment: during the course of this year, the school has continuously sought to both reform and build anew, strengthening our basic educational foundation while also improving living and academic conditions for students, as we have always believed that the purpose of the school environment is to build a dream stage of achievement for every student.

It is hoped that as new students continue on their journey to pursue their highest dreams, they will remember some practical, down to earth advice: dare to dream, set goals, study hard, think critically, dare to innovate, pursue excellence, always challenge and refine oneself, stay healthy and take care of one’s body.
