People were waiting for one person eagerly and earnestly- Li Peigen,academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and also former president of HUSTor “Uncle Gen”.

At 18:00 o'clock, a grey haired person,smiling, walked into the lecture hall accompanied by Ren Hao, deputy secretaryof DNUI branch of CPC Committee. The crowds burst into warm applauses followingsome students' exclamation" Uncle Gen is coming!".
"I major in machinery not ininternet, but I will say something about internet today. Perhaps you are moreinformed than me and it is taboo to talk about things one is not good at in thefaces of real experts. But I will brave it. Firstly, I will show a generaloutlook and then we will get involved in further discussion. I would pay moreattention to the latter part," said Li modestly immediately after he wasseated on the stage.
During two hours, proceeding fromthe trend of internet development, the revered academician analyzed how theinternet is affecting education, medical treatment, manufacturing and otherareas closely related to people’s lives from three major perspectives includinginternet and data, internet and equipment, internet and human. In order to helpstudents better understand these issues, academician Li analyzed Haier, Alibaba and other enterprise cases as well asa range of internet products such as WeChat, YouTube, Facebook and Xiaomi cellphone. In terms of internet's influence on human, he proposed the internetspirit featuring existence, opening, equality, sharing and individualization.Academician Li Peigen said," Internet is not a myth. We can make use of itto create things, but it is not almighty. In the era of internet plus, weshould change our thinking modes and go into internet proactively instead ofpassively adapting to it."
Afterwards, academician Li Peigenconducted a face to face exchange with the audience. Speaking of how to spendfour years' college life and how to do career planning, academician Li saidpatiently," For you, it is crucial to turn college study and life into aconscious and free activity. Nowadays, only a few students study out ofconsciousness and freedom and most study only for credits and are doing thingsthey are unwilling to do. Never do things for others' expectations and anenvironment of freedom and consciousness can develop your potential forinnovation. Another thing is the spirit of independence. General Secretary XiJinping proposed the Chinese Dream with the key of helping everyone with theopportunity to make a success of themselves in their own ways. After the notice of Li Peigen'slecture in DNUI was released on the university’s WeChat platform, 500 ticketswere snapped up within a single day. View 1: Data arethe core of the new Industrial Revolution
We are now in the era of Industry 4.0. Maybe you don’tknow much about this, but I suggest IT students keep an eye on other walks oflife and the general trend of social economic development. Industry 4.0 refersto the fourth industrial revolution. For Germans, it is exactly the ElectronicInformation Age, which can be referred to as CPS. This is digital physics.Simply put, it is the mixture of digital space with physical space. The UnitedStates launched the industrial Internet. Now we are launching Industry 2025 inthe hope that the informationization and industrialization can be integrated indepth, namely, to digitalization. Big Data is the core of the new industrial revolution.
View 2: The spirit of Internet should be based onpeople
The Internet spirit generally involves openness,equality, cooperation and sharing. All those are based on people. So, we shouldadd “existence”.
Existence: Thanks to the Internet, we can easily takethe sense of others’ existence and show our own presence, such as the use ofWeChat. To give it a second thought, we will easily feel that Internet is veryinteresting. If an Internet product can present users with a good experienceand make them have the sense of existence, it will be surely very popular, suchas WeChat and Google glasses. We should understand the Internet from theperspective of man’s existence. Opening: an open internet is also related topeople. The value of an enterprise or a person is determined by the breadth anddepth of the connection. Thus to promote personal or enterprise value solelymeans opening and to interconnect as much as possible. Information contentdecides the value, which is the trait of the information society. Opening hererefers to that of physical time and space as well as that of thinking space.Opening needs sharing, collaboration and regulation.
Equality:Decentralization is the basic component of the Internet. The Internet does nothave a “center”. Instead, it is “decentralized”. For users, everyone is equal.As Bill Gates said, “On the Internet, you never know whether the other terminaluser is a pig or a dog.”
Sharing: most important Internet innovation events arenot driven by people specialized in Internet-related technologies. Take YouTubefor example: only a few students wanted to use E-mail to share photos andimages. But due to the huge bulk of files, the ordinary emails cannot fulfilthe task of transmission. Finally, they set up a sharing website. In anotherexample, Yahoo was originally created to watch games. So, here are manyplayers. Through the Internet, they experience, use and share. The Internetdevelopment mode of Xiaomi cell phone has also attracted much attention. Ituses WeChat, Weibo and BBS to collect your thoughts or suggestions. 80% of itsoperating system updates were initiated by its users. A lot of resources on theInternet are intended for users’ sharing, such as open source design.
Individualization: Internet is customer-centred, whichbasically meets the individualized needs of users and individualized productsand service. Now 3D printing technology is also just for satisfyingindividuals. I’ll take BMW as an example. Customers can choose exterior andinterior designs of their cars, which is customization. Also, Red Collar Group,a clothing enterprise, covers nearly 100% individualizeddesignfor the products. Customers send all data through the network. Then theenterprise customizes clothing according to the data. Usually, within 7 days,finished products can be delivered. Although the cost increased by ten percent,income doubled because it is so popular with the customers.
Evolution: Evolution is one of the biological characteristics.The Internet itself is evolving. A professor at University of Californiapointed out that Internet data evolved amazingly, including competition, natureand selection, etc., presenting the characteristics of life. In human history,evolution on the record is less than one hundred generations, but digital hasevolved more than a few hundred generations to date.

Well, when we talk about internet plus, we’d betterembrace it, but passively adapt to it. We should seek foropportunities from Internet equipment, data and people. The Internet lowers thethreshold of entrepreneurship.
