At 7:00 p.m. on November 8th, the9th DNUI Dancing Contest Final themed “Dance for Youth” was held on the firstfloor of Students Activity Center. Hosted by Committee of Youth League andorganized by Student Union, the contest was a real feast for its audience. Itwas attended by dance director Wang Yibing from East Dalian Media Co., Ltd.Secretary of DNUI Committee of Youth League Li Nan, Deputy Director ofPsychological Counseling Team Tang Rongrong from Department of FundamentalCourses, instructor of Committee of Youth League Art Ensemble, Wang Xiujuan andrepresentatives of each department.
The contest was well organizedand amazed the audience with novelty and fascinating performance. Finalistsreceived repeating cheers throughout the whole contest for their excellentdancing skills. The scene was as delightful as a hundred flowers blossom at thesame time. Besides, the first three winners of “Top Ten Singers”, DNUI AerobicTeam and Art Ensemble, all gave their performance, which lit up the wholeplace.
Supporters of each team had long beenawaiting the final contest at the site. Li Mengdi, Student Union President ofRussian Department, was also expecting the final together with her team. Shesaid, “The time we’ve got for preparation is quite limited. Each time when Isaw them practicing, I felt sorry for them. So it doesn’t matter whether we canget a good place or not. What’s more important is that we have improvedourselves.” She added that they had integrated Russian culture into theirperformance.
Nine pieces of individualperformance were extraordinarily splendid, including The Word Love, Elegance and Coolness, The Win etc. In team contestpart, 12 pieces were just as wonderful, including At the Wedding, The Journey to the West, Miss and so on. One of theindividual contestants, Li Haosen from Class 14003, majoring in the Internet ofThings at Department of Computer Scienceand Technology, impressed the audience with Crocodile.He said, “Thanks to this contest, I’ve got the chance to make more people knowabout this kind of dance called animation. I believe it will be fantastic whenperformed on the stage.” Another contestant, Liu Haikun from Class 15003,majoring in Logistics Engineering at Department of Business Managementpresented Stay with Me and the dancewas well-received. The Latin dance OneNation Can’t Have Two Queens lit up the audience with a variety of bodymovements expressing emotions. The folk dance given by contestants from RussianDepartment and Japanese Department brought about great visual impactcontrasting with modern dance, and received rounds of cheers and applause. Thedynamic performance given by contestants created a passionate atmosphere andshowed DNUIers’ vigor of youth as well as the characteristic of eachdepartment.
Swaying light sticks, warmapplause and cheers from the audience sent a message of enthusiasm and unity.After two hours of fierce competition, the contest came to an end. The performanceStay with Me by Liu Haikun wasawarded the first place for individual. He said sincerely, “I’m so excited tobe awarded this prize. I used to be the chief dancer of Dalian Art Ensemble,but got injured in high school. Thanks for this contest, I got the opportunityto be back on stage. My efforts have finally been paid off. And many thanks tomy friends and classmates who have always been with me.” The Last Performance by Department of Digital Arts won thechampionship of modern dance, and Night& Kiss by Japanese department won the first place of folk dance.
“This time we combine individualcontest with team competition in an innovative way. The full preparation andactive participation of all contestants made an extraordinarily successfulcontest. I hope that no matter having won prizes or not, all of them couldbelieve in their dreams and persevere in what they do before their efforts getpaid off.” A representative of the host said.
