15th Top 10 Singers Launches

The Finals of the 15thTop 10 Singers Contest, sponsored by the Youth League of DNUI and the Students’Union, were launched at the Univesity Students’ Centre of the Third Phase Areaof the University on November, 7th. Zhang Minghua, Arts Director ofSpotlight Media, Li Nan, Secretary of the Youth League Committee and WangXiujuan, Instructor of the University Students’ Arts Ensemble of the YouthLeague acted as judges.

After rounds of selection, 16singers had made their ways to the finals, an aural carnival to make a specialDNUI evening. Starting with a magnificent dance given by the the UniversityStudents’ Arts Ensemble, the 16 contestants sang in chorus I Won’t Quit, passing their youthful ardor on to everyone present. 

The competition involved threelinks. The first was Mentor Helps Me,one of the highlights of the event which was a currently popular system and inwhich a mentor sang with four singers. The novel arrangement was nodded to bythe audience. “It is a surprise to us to see the mentor system used originallyin the contest. Overall it works, easy and novel,” indicated Sun Yongkai,majoring in embedded, from Class 15103 of the Electronic EngineeringDepartment.

The second link was A Showdown, in which16 rivals sang inturn. Tian Jiaming, a student of Japanese Department kicked off with At Lake Baikal, followed by the joyful If I Lived Another Life, the passionate TooMuch, the ethereal Love for 1,000Years and others, with the audience acclaiming eagerly. The songs withdistinctive styles took everyone into their wonderful worlds.

Three candidates, Xiao Tianyufrom Business Administration Department, An Shenglong from Software EngineeringDepartment and Zhang Yufei from the Department of Digital Arts, stood out inthe second link to enter the third for the champion and the runner-up statuses.At last, Xiao Tianyu was selected by the three professional judges and the 50student ones to be the champion and Most Popular Singer, with An Shenglongcoming up next. 

“I never expected myself to bethe champion. Actually I would have been as satisfied if I had made it to thefinals. After all, everyone is so good. It is really a surprise to me,” saidXiao Tianyu at the back stage, with the cup in his hand. 

“The competition changes in formevery year, so today’s arrangement has proved to be an aural enjoyment toeveryone. It is a platform to present yourself and I hope you will take anactive part in it,” said Li Nan.

“Our biggest innovation this yearhas been the mentor system, which we borrowed from The Voice of China. We have been exploring to do a better job thanthe last year,” said Wang Xiujuan.

On top of the pleasant songs,other forms of performance were added and interactive games were arranged toengage the audience. “I think that the lighting and setting are fantastic. Theycan match any professional performance stage,” commented Wang Ziying from Class15001 of the English Department.
