Dalian Institute Greets Freshmen of Master of Software Engineering

On Aug. 29, 2007, a grand opening ceremony for the 2007 freshmen of Northeastern University Master of Software Engineering (MSE) in Dalian Teaching Spot was held in lecture hall A2-309 of NII. Liu Honglin, Director of Graduate Management Division of NEU Graduate School, Gao Xiaoxing, Deputy President of NEU Software School, and Zhang Jianbin, Dean of NEU Software School came to Dalian to attend the ceremony. Dr. Zhang Wei and Prof. Cao Yunfeng, Deputy Presidents of NII, Mr. Ren Hao, Deputy Secretary of NII Party Committee, Prof. Qi Zhiru, the Consultant of President, and heads of departments concerned and some master supervisors were present. The ceremony was presided over by the Prof. Ma Jun, Director of the Office of Scientific Research and Graduate Affairs.
Liu Honglin, Director of Graduate Management Division of NEU Graduate School, claimed that software engineering masters played an important part in master-fostering system in Northeastern University; he also called on the Masters of Software Engineering to carry forward the tradition of NEU graduates, and hoped that their achievements could rebound a good name to the school and the place they would work in. Moreover, he encouraged the Dalian teaching spot would seek after new ways of master fostering. Vice President of NEU Software School Gao Xiaoxing expatiated on the nature and system of MSE and requirements of each process in training MSE. He emphasized that students who study in Dalian were very lucky for they enjoyed the first-class studying conditions in Dalian. Dean Zhang Jianbin clued on some problems students should notice after their enrollment. On behalf of master supervisors, Dr. Zhang Wei offered the students some suggestions and hopes on skills, image and working attitude.
Gu Fei, MSE student of 2006, made a speech: “The college has provided us with precious teaching resources and practicing resources. The Graduate School offered us practical courses besides course teaching. It involved us right into the practical exploitation of projects, our practical ability has improved and we also benefit a lot from it.” Chen Chao, student of 2007, also made a speech representing the freshmen. He expressed the freshmen’s gratitude to the college for the opportunity of further study. He made three proposals to his fellow freshmen: “Don’t waste time; Start from tiny and simple things; Improve morality”.
Mr. Ren Hao, Deputy Secretary of NII Party Committee, delivered a speech at the end. He introduced the educational features of Neusoft to the students, and proposed three wishes to the postgraduates: 1. to make full use of the learning resources and help to improve the study atmosphere of the institute; 2. to enjoy and create a nice campus culture; 3. to play an active role in various activities of the institute. Mr. Ren also made an exciting announcement that in the science contest of 2006, five pieces of works took part in the contest and three of them won the provincial golden prize, and the postgraduate team was the only one of NII that entered the finals for the national award.
It is learned that our university has been expanding its influence in Dalian since the first full-process training and enrollment in 2006. The factors attracting the candidates include the excellent teaching resources, field training courses, standardized postgraduate cultivation and management, standard and unique course system settings, engineering practice and academic environment.
Our institute enrolled 76 students this year, including full-time and part-time, just second to the mother school in the number of people admitted and actually enrolled. With the arrival of the 2007 students, the number of the master students and the doctor students under the supervision of teachers of our institute has climbed to 112.
