Joint Education Program Launched by Dalian NII and Konkuk University

On the morning of April 26, Dalian NII received an eight-member delegation headed by Mr. Oh Myung, President of Konkuk University of Korea, former Vice Premier of Republic of Korea, the founder of IT industry of South Korea. An official signing ceremony was held in the meeting room A2-330 for the joint education program between the two colleges. The ceremony was hosted by Professor Cao Yunfeng, Vice President of Dalian NII, with the attendance of Doctor Wen Tao, NII Secretary of CPC Committee and President of Dalian NII; Doctor Liu Chunyu, President Assistant of NII; Ms. Yang Lu, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Center of NII. An agreement was reached on the future cooperative education program at the ceremony that further cooperation would be carried out in terms of student exchange, scholars visits and teachers exchange programs, and collaboration in the study on IT subjects, bilateral conferences as well as exchange of materials for teaching and scientific research.
The signing ceremony went on in a pleasant and congenial atmosphere. President Wen Tao first delivered an ardent speech of welcome to Mr. Oh and other delegation members, and then made a detailed introduction to the innovative IT education program of NII, covering the school running philosophy and modes, the enterprise-oriented customized training program, SOVO (Students Office & Venture Office), the curriculum system as well as the practical environment. President Wen also expressed full confidence about the prospect of the cooperation between the two colleges in education programs.
The innovative IT education program of Dalian NII has been a particular attraction to President Oh and a major factor in his decision to have chosen NII as a cooperation partner. "What actually attracted me during my previous visit to Dalian was the campus of the institute." Mr. Oh said, "I have been to many world-famous universities, and the buildings of Neusoft Institute are definitely among the most impressive ones. Later on I learned that NII is specialized in the training program for IT industry, which is undoubtedly the propeller of the development of the nation, enterprises and the whole society. I admire the great success you have achieved in integrating education with the practical need of industry in such a short period of 5 years, thus we are looking forward to the cooperation with NII, not only in the exchange of students and teachers, but also in the scientific research that can combine advantages of both parties.
Afterwards, Mr. Oh visited the teaching buildings, the scientific research area and the accommodation area of the students, and spoke highly of the pioneering educational idea and excellent environment for practical teaching.
As a specialized IT college established to the need of prosperous IT industry in Dalian, NII has attracted the attention of many renowned universities with its industry-oriented education mode that coincides with international standards. Currently NII has launched a variety of cooperative programs with over 10 prestigious universities, including Swinburne University of Technology and the University of Adelaide in Australia, University of Georgia in the U.S., University of Reading in Britain, South Korean ChungKang College of Cultural Industries, Waseda University in Japan and Far Eastern State Technical Fishery University of Russia. The broad international cooperation certainly signifies a great success for a college with a short history of only five years. It is also a sign of positive international reputation of Chinese IT education. With regard to the booming Chinese IT industry, the cooperation and the exchanges between Chinese colleges and the universities of other countries will surely play a very important role in accelerating the globalization of IT education in China as well as in integrating the advanced idea with our practice.
Moreover, this cooperative program will further promote the training model of NII for "pragmatic, international" talents of individuality while providing opportunities for the students to obtain more experience abroad. Meanwhile, the exchange of the teachers helps to promote the quality of the teachers of NII through offering access to broader perspective in the international environment as well as the advanced education concept and methods in South Korea.
Korean Konkuk Univerity founded in 1946 is a researching and teaching university with 25,000 students. Its main campus is located in Seoul. Konkuk University, with a 61-year history and tradition, is one of the country’ s renowned universities and with a high reputation. Current president Mr. Oh Myung was the former Korean Minister of Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the first Minister of Ministry of Constructions and Communications and Ministry of Science and Technology, and leadership of different areas, and he was also the first Vice-Premier of Science. In Korea, Mr. Oh Myung is known as the " leader of information revolution ". As " the founder of the Korean IT industry ", Mr. Oh Myung has made many outstanding contributions to Korean IT field, and has played an significant role in helping Korea rank top in the international IT industry.
