Fuwa (formerly called friendliness, mascots of 2008 Summer Olympic Games), the Olympic rings, colorful balloons, powerful slogan and cheerful Dalian NII faculty and students, all these made up of themes of NII on May 16. Before the Olympics, the third Sports Meeting of Dalian NII was held in Neusoft Stadium. Secretary of Dalian NII Party Committee and President, Professor Wen Tao; Vice-President Zhang Wei; Vice-President, Mr. Bao Hongkui; Vice-Secretary of Party Committee of Dalian NII, Mr. Ren Hao; President Assistant, Mr. Zhai Jifang; President Assistant, Mr. Liu Chunyu; Consultant Qi Zhiru and leaders of all departments and sections attended the Opening Ceremony. President Wen Tao addressed at the opening ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Vice-Secretary of Dalian NII Party Committee, Mr. Ren Hao. With “Harmony, Combatant Spirit, Solidarity and Moving forward” as the theme, taking “Follow Olympics, Build Harmonious Campus” as slogans, the third sports meeting aimed to improve the physical quality of Neusoft faculty and students and the standard of sports of Dalian NII as a whole, to promote the team collaboration of Neusoft faculty and students and build a application-oriented, industry-education cooperated and practice-oriented IT Institute with distinctive characteristics. Before the Games started, in order to express the condolences to the victims of Sichuan earthquake, all the teachers and students stood up and observed silence for three minutes. The whole stadium suddenly quieted down, and the Neusoft teachers and students prayed in silence for the compatriots in disaster areas. At 8 o’clock sharp, along with athletes March, the national flag team, the institute flag team, the bouquets team, the colorful flags team, the judges team, and athletes team marched vigorously passing the rostrum to accept review. Despite of the thick fog and cold weather, the energetic and united spirit of Neusoft teachers and students was not affected at all. Unique formation of teams, uniform pace, and the slogans became the focus of public attention. They demonstrated unique characteristics and tenacious quality of Neusoft teachers and students, and showed the longing and self-confidence of all the teachers and students for a better future of our institute. Afterwards, President Wen Tao announced, "The third Sports meeting of Neusoft Institute of Information Open!" Under people’s attention, along with the solemn national anthem, the five-starred red flag was raised. Witnessing the snowstorm, Tibetan separatists, the disruption of Olympic torch relay in foreign countries, and the recent earthquake in Sichuan, seeing the five-starred red flag fluttering in the wind, all the teachers and students could not help but singing the national anthem with a strong national feeling to serve the country. In the next calisthenics show, faculties and students of each department showed what they were good at: performance Tai Chi fan from Department of Fundamental Courses showed Chinese Charm; kickboxing from Department of Computer Science and Technology has demonstrated their strong and vigorous physique and high morale; the calisthenics performances of the English Department showed their health and passion. The splendid performances won rounds of applause from the audience, and the team spirit of collaboration was demonstrated most vividly right at this time. After the performance, games started officially. The games included 100 m, 400 m, the kangaroo dance, 4 × 400 m relay, tire rolling relay, long jump, high jump, 4 people 5 feet, acting in unison, 200 m, 800 m, 6 × 200 m relay, 4 × 100 m relay, 1500 m, 3000 m, 20 people 21 feet, and other competitions of students and teachers. Athletes were holding the Olympic spirit of "faster, higher, and stronger" in the race, demonstrating the spirit of struggle, annealing their physical fitness, in the games, appreciating the meaning of competition. Referees were committed, fair and just, showing a high level of technical quality. Cheerleading squad went all out to cheer their athletes to display the essence spirit of sports “Participation is the most important" in the sports competition. At the closing ceremony, the organizing committee announced the results and awards of competitions as well as the results of the cultural and ideological civilization awards, and awarded the winners.
