In September, 2007, Department of Digital Arts took some special work on freshmen’s welcoming and colorful educational activities for freshmen combining with its characteristics and the actual situation of the freshmen. The unique activity of welcoming freshmen: In the welcoming freshmen activity, Department of Digital Arts fully showed its own characteristics: the unique posters, humanized services (recording freshmen’s height, weight and sizes of shoes), letters to the parents, professional teachers visited parents and so on. When fully demonstrating the cultural characteristics of Department of Digital Arts, it did well to show the attention on the details of work and meticulous care of freshmen. Parents Gathering: On the afternoon of September 1, Party Branch Secretary of  Department of Digital Arts，Mr. Zhu Ruiqiu and the dean assistant, Mr. Liu Bo, held the 2007 Freshmen Parents Gathering with about 100 parents in Lecture Room A306. Ms. Zhu Ruiqiu gave the general introduction about the department, major orientation cultivation mode, cultivation goal, management system and school rules and regulations. She also communicated with parents about any possible problems that college students would encounter during the college life. After the gathering, the parents’ contacts list was made, which could offer the conveniences for communication between school and parents. The first class meeting for freshmen: At 8:30 on September 3, teachers and freshmen of Department of Digital Arts were organized to have the first class meeting titled Together With Me. In the meeting, teachers introduced the arrangements and contents of educational activities for freshmen and in the meeting the freshmen had the self-introductions and they communicated with each other. In the end, some students were chosen to be the ones who would contact with teachers. The first class meeting offered a good platform to communicate between teachers and freshmen. Get familiar with the campus: At 10:00, on September 3, followed by teachers, freshmen enjoyed the exhibition of drawings and sculptures made by their schoolfellows. Thus they could understand their department in the most intuitive way, and had the confidences and determinations in artistic creations. After this, the members of Students Union showed freshmen around the beautiful campus to get familiar with their new home. Welcome Party for Freshmen and Major Introduction Meeting: On the afternoon of September 3rd, all the faculty and freshmen in Department of Digital Arts gathered in Lecture Room A1-306 joining a party to welcome freshmen and giving a major introduction meeting. Dean of Department of Digital Arts, Pro. Chen Xiguang and Liu Bo, Dean Assistant, made speeches separately. They gave the freshmen a detailed introduction to campus life and major programs in Department of Digital Arts, as well as some questions that the freshmen concerned, which would guide the academic study and campus life for the freshmen. Visiting Dalian Museum of Natural History: On the morning of September 4th, guided by Zhu Ruiqiu, Party Branch Secretary, and Liu Zijin, Student Advisor, all the freshmen in Department of Digital Arts visited the Dalian Museum of Natural History located in Heishijiao. Through visiting, the freshmen knew more about Dalian and were motivated to do educational activities. Career Planning Lecture: On the afternoon of September 4th, Mr. Zhang Xianyi was invited to give a career planning lecture to all the freshmen of Department of Digital Arts, which led the students to know more about the upcoming campus life. After the lecture, the freshmen were required to do a career plan by themselves to make preparation for their own future.   Legal & Safety Lecture for Freshmen: On September 6th, Legal & Safety lecture for the freshmen in Department of Digital Arts was held in Lecture Hall 602 of Library Building Two specialized lawyers in Dalian Yihai law firm gave a lively lecture by demonstrating some exact cases. They also answered the safety questions from the freshmen. Several media like Dalian TV, Dalian Daily and Dalian Evening News also covered this lecture. Entrance Education for freshmen: On September 7th, combining his own experience, Mr. Yu Qingjun, Vice Director of Department of Digital Arts, gave a lecture on study methods, interpersonal Communication and time management. His rich life experiences infected and motivated all the freshmen to go on for a new college life. Gratitude to Parents, Friendship to Fellow Students: On September 7th, the theme party “Gratitude to Parents, Friendship to Fellow Students” started with the song “Mother”. Ren Hao, Vice-Secretary of the School Party Committee and Zhu Ruiqiu, Party Branch Secretary of Department of Digital Arts attended this activity. During the activity, ten freshmen read their letter to their parents, and watched a video tape of interviewing the parents, which made many teary faces of the freshmen. With the love, concern and expectation from their parents, the freshmen would have a bright future. At the end of the activity, all the teachers and students finished the song “A Grateful Heart” by hand language. Various and rich entrance education played a significant role in the freshmen’s beginning part of college life by helping them to shift their life characters, begin their campus life smoothly, confidently and clearly.
