On Sep 9th, 2007, held by the Education Department of Liaoning Province, the 3rd Liaoning Provincial Higher Vocational Institutes Practical Oral English Final Contest came to a successful conclusion in Liaoning Provincial College of Communications, Zhao Lu, student of our institute, majoring in Business Management from Department of Information Technology and Business Administration of Grade 2005 was awarded the second prize. The contest aims to implement the spirit of the National Vocational Education Conference, to further promote the development of higher vocational education, to deepen the reform of English teaching of Higher Vocational Education, to demonstrate and improve spoken English ability of Higher Vocational Education students, to inspire the students’ enthusiasm in learning English. From planning, preparing, first round to final round, the contest lasted nearly 5 months, for which morn than 100 contestants form over 70 Higher Vocational Institutes province-wide signed up. After 30 hours’ initial intensive training, our selection of 3 contestants participated in the first round of Dalian Division held in Dalian Vocational Technical College in July 1st, in which Zhao Lu performed so well that she received the fifth ranking in the first round and smoothly entered the final. In Sep. 9th, Zhao Lu competed together with 20 contestants from 14 Higher Vocational Institutes province-wide and was finally awarded the second prize after the fierce competition of free speech, on-spot description and situational communication. It is the first time that our student has been awarded in higher vocational oral English contest at the provincial level. Zhao Lu, with her outstanding performance, fully demonstrated the elegant style of NII students and deeply impressed the Judge Panel and higher vocational institutes in the whole province. The contest received great care from the institute leaders at all levels and hard work form instructors in the English Department, which inspired the teachers and students in the whole institute.
