IBM and Neusoft II cooperated to cultivate the innovative IT talents

[Oct. 20, 2008, Dalian, China] Today, IBM (NYSE:IBM) and Dalian Neusoft Information Institute, a well-known IT professional institution of China jointly held “IBM and Neusoft II Cooperative Education Cultivation Implementation Starting Ceremony”. Based on the long-term strategy partnership between IBM and Neusoft, the plan combined the advantages over the software & hardware and resources of the two sides, aiming to push the cultivation of innovative IT talents of China. Depending on the abundant software technology background of IBM and the vigorous input in the teachers of Neusoft II, the plan will propel the cultivation of the high-quality IT talents. This cooperation is an important milestone of IBM University Program and Academic Initiatives since the starting in 2006. With the IBM strong professional lecturer team & curriculum and excellent teaching staff, teaching environment & management abilities of Neusoft II, it will make a contribution to the IT Industry development of Dalian, even China and the prosperity of ecological system.

E. Klein (Director of IBM Asian Pacific Application Developer Cooperation Dept.) attended the startup ceremony.
The specific details of the cooperation between the two sides include: the integration of teaching resources, to carry out DB2 database-related courses in faculty training and certification, introducing of IBM practical cases teaching, the exchange of courses, preparing to open such new majors as Medical Information Engineering, Digital Media Technology, Geographic Information System and so on to meet professional customers’ needs for the hotspot technical program. In this cooperation, IBM furthered their investment and support in the setting of lecturers, bringing 360° lecturer team program into effect for the first time---which consists of senior technical experts and engineers. The lecturer team aims at teaching innovative software technology projects, at the same time controls strictly of lecturer’s quality and lays a teaching base with solid foundation for cultivating high quality talents. In addition, IBM will provide Websphere, DB2 and Software: Rational for teaching, bridge enterprises and high quality talents through IBM Talents Alliance Plan and transport talents for cooperative partners and the whole ecosystem as well as recommend the trainees proper employment opportunities. Neusoft provides all the hardware supporting in the cooperation. It is expected that there will be 70 to 100 students receiving the training at the first phase.

Neusoft was selected as the cooperative institute mainly because its innovative school running concept and the university-industry cooperation mode with a good abutting joint business, which meets enterprises well, and the excellent educational environment and resources.
Relying on Neusoft Group’s IT industry advantage, Neusoft Institute owns a practice-oriented school running mode and advanced hardware environment. For this partnership, Dalian Neusoft Institute of Information Professor Wen Tao said, the much-needed IT talents in 21st century are well-educated in profession and utility innovative talents with high skills. This school-enterprise cooperative method will make better use of enterprise’s rich resources and provide students with suitable teaching materials, experimental environment and internship base. It is of great significance for cultivating practical IT innovative talents and improves their professional quality and competitive ability. We think that IBM’s cooperation with Chinese universities in cultivating talents is a strategic move, and we also hope more and more enterprises both home and abroad will devote themselves to the supporting of Chinese education.
As the representative of Chinese practice-oriented IT Education, answering the demand raised by industry and society and applying practice-oriented knowledge structure and course structure, NII emphasizes on practical teaching mode and training methods; takes the establishment of international college-enterprise teaching resources as the core and puts optimizing students’ knowledge structure and elevating students’ practical skills as the most important part of education. Consequently, NII has formed its unique education feature – “practice-oriented education, cooperation between college and enterprises, and aiming at employment” and has established friendly communication and cooperation with famous IT enterprises (including IBM) home and abroad in all aspects relevant to talent training. Currently, there are about 13000 undergraduates in NII and has trained more than 10,000 IT talents who possess solid professional skills, strong practical ability and influent foreign language communication capability. These “practical, internationalized, and unique” IT talents are NII’s great contribution to Chinese college education and IT industry development.
IBM owns advanced software platform and relevant technological materials: while NII possess excellent talent training environment and innovative talent training modes. The two sides cooperate with each other to open relevant software courses and make good use of IBM practical platform to train students’ practical skills. This project combines the advantages of both sides together. NII provides best teaching support and keeps developing training content, training system and training modes in order to train more innovative IT talents. It will contribute a lot to the development of IT industry of Dalian and even China.
IBM’s cooperation with NII is another milestone of the development of IBM training college education project in China. In order to promote the healthy development of talent training system in a new training mode with its partner, IBM launched “IBM Training College Education Project” which takes training practice-oriented, market-oriented and industrial demand-oriented talents as its most special feature in April, 2006. Till August, 2008, IBM has cooperated with many partners and more than 40 colleges, mainly including Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Northwest University, and Beijing Information Technology College. At the same time, this project has also made great achievement in student number, training effects and promoting the innovation of IT industry, which amazes the whole IT industry. In the past two years, IBM has successfully held more than 200 college seminars and trained more than 1600 lecturers and 20,000 students systematically, and offered 2000 jobs for students.
