Friendship with no Boundary
Release time:2015-12-15

At 9:00 on May 25, a group of 18 led by Doctor Watson and the Doctor Huber from University of Georgia arrived in our institute. Thus, the two-week international exchange and cooperation projects between Dalian Neusoft Institute of Information and Terry Business School of University of Georgia had begun.  I was looking forward to May 25 since I knew on that day our guests would come across the Pacific Ocean to meet us. It seemed like a great holiday to me and I had been preparing for this whole-heartedly. I frequently opened the calendar on my mobile phone and countdown the time, hoping the time goes faster. When I saw them getting off the bus one by one, holding their hands, I felt that we were really close. I could almost feel their temperature and heartbeat. At that time, I had found there was no boundary between us, we were one family, like spring festival, we reunited… ----Li Zhongxin (Tim) The bus was supposed to arrive at 9 o’clock, but it was delayed for some reason. While we were waiting, we were wondering what they look like. Did they have more men or more women? Were they black, white or yellow? The bus arrived slowly after over 10 minutes, we tacitly moved into an arc to welcome them. Then, we introduced ourselves while shaking hands with these American guests. The meeting ritual was quite easy and we all held a prosperous expect towards the future. ------Wei Zhengren (Frank)     During the next ten days, 14 students from the Department of Computer Science and Technology and Department of Information Technology and Business Administration (9 from Department of Computer Science and Technology and 5 ), and 14 students from The University of Georgia’s Business Department got together to study, travel and have fun. It was a very good opportunity to know each other and their culture The topic of the morning courses was about the Globalization & IS (Globalization and the Information System), addressed respectively by Doctor Watson and the Doctor Huber. Each Chinese student partnered with an American student, everyone in the classroom was in the heat discussion, exchanged ideas, expereienced cultural differences in teaching, while admired each other"s unique way of thinking. The afternoon was the more relaxed Business Visit and City Tour and other outdoor activities, while understanding the development of Chinese enterprises operating mode, they also enjoyed the beauty of Dalian and the surrounding sceneries. May 31 afternoon, Chinese teachers and students organized a beach BBQ Party for the American teachers and students in Golden Beach. Under the blue sky, students lit bonfire on the beach to carry out all the entertainments happily. It was worth mentioning was that there were vegetarians in American students, so the Chinese students went to the vegetable market to buy fresh vegetables for them, and produced vegetable kushiyaki, which made the American teachers and students impressed. At end of the activity, the American teachers and students cheered three times for the Chinese students before leaving the beach and boarding the bus back to school. To prepare and hold the beach barbecue was a hard process but full of great happiness. Cheng Yanpeng, the teacher from Institute of International Education helped us to contact the vehicle agency to get a bus and took on most of the work of food purchase. We, Chinese students here, were mainly responsible for purchasing and preparing fresh vegetables and some other appliances. We bought mushrooms, peppers, cucumbers, and solid alcohol in Sun Jiagou market, then went to the Trust-Mart to buy the flesh-linked meat and snacks. Back to the bedroom, we washed the vegetables, sliced and strung together. Everything is well-prepared.     To light the fire took us a lot of work and when the charcoal burning, we started the barbecue, the real problems emerged - how to control the furnace and spices in order to make the kushiyaki suitable for all tastes? Fortunately, we had Miss Cheng as the chef, and Zhang Li, Luhe, Liujiaqi and other cooks, so we had a successful beach barbecue party. ——Li Yifan(Psy) The morning of June 4, 28 students did the group presentation about the hot topic around the world- H1N1, Financial Crisis, GM Bankruptcy as well as the Globalization and got the comments form the American professors. In the afternoon, a solemn graduation ceremony was held in A10 at the Institute of International Education, students who completed all the courses received the certificates. The two sides also exchanged gifts, the symbol of friendship forever. In the last lesson, we, like Professor Huber did our Presentation. Because it is the Group"s report, during the preparation, I discovered the biggest difference between the Chinese and American students was that American students tried to seek a clear description of the whole thing and put forward their own questions and let the audience to think about themselves, while the Chinese students tried to convince the audience agreed with them after a clear description of the whole thing and presenting their ideas. This is a very interesting phenomenon, perhaps we can call it Sino-US difference. After these days of courses, we not only gained the knowledge,   but more importantly, understood the different way of thinking, which was really beneficial. June 5, Yanglu, president of Institution of International Education and Cheng Hongpeng with all the Chinese students saw off American friends who would take the flight to Shanghai and take the afternoon flight from Shanghai back to Atlanta (capital of Georgia, USA).   The course was structured to provide many opportunities for NII and UGA students to work together so they could learn about each other’s countries and cultures. This is the second time I have taught this course, and I continue to be amazed by how American and Chinese students quickly learn to work with each other and develop strong friendships. The course is a wonderful demonstration of the power of young people to recognize how much they have in common and enjoy each other’s differences. It is a great pity that more students at NII and UGA cannot benefit from a similar highly enlightening experience. ——Dr. Richard Watson I am very glad that I got to attend this program. It was an eye-opening experience not just for myself, but the other American students as well. We got to not only interact with the Chinese students on a personal level, but we also learned a lot from one another. Each day, an American student is paired up with a different Chinese student and we go over the current issues that are occurring all over the globe. As we discussed, we debated about the importance and effects of each event, hearing views from both sides. I personally loved the experience because, although I am Chinese, I got to learn more about the Chinese culture and education style that cannot be achieved through book reading alone. Plus, I made a bunch of friends that I will cherish for a lifetime! If possible, I will definitely attend this program again. ——Xiaoling Huang After we saw them off on Friday, we always felt that something was lost- It"s hard to say. Back to the bedroom, watching the empty floor, sitting on the bed, thinking nothing and looking at the pictures together, which made me very warm and moved. The bedroom were filled with the sad atmosphere. Lying on the bed and turning over and over again, their figure always flashed in my eyes. Like watching the film, I recalled the memories that everything we shared together, wanting to seize the... ——Fang Tao(Steven) Before participating in this project, I thought I had the confidence that we could communicate well with them, but when communicating with them, I discovered that I still had a long way to be good, which push me to work harder to learn English. In the short 11 days, we learned from each other and communicated with each other; both sides had developed a deep affection. Now they were gone, we returned to the familiar life of learning. The 11 days were just like a dream. To be honest, my heart was broken, because we had feelings with each other, and were reluctant to farewell. We moved out of the Domitory 15#, but my heart remained in that place. Because there were a lot good memories in that place, which would still remain deep in my heart! ——Li Yonghui(Brian) There is an old saying of ancient Chinese called "rainy day is to keep people," the weather had been sunny and beautiful for two weeks, but in the day of parting, it suddenly began to rain. At the airport, we bid farewell, hugging with tears in our eyes, thinking why the short two weeks made us so sad… Back to the place where once we lived together, there was an empty feeling. It was over, leaving the beautiful memories behind. I wanted to leave here as soon as possible, because there were a lot happiness and laughs here. Those bright-colored pictures in my memory still appeared vividly before me. ——Ma Yilong(Leslie) Through this program, we not only became acquainted with many friends from across the Atlantic, but also strengthened the relationship between our Chinese students. After the program we usually got together to chat with each other, called our American friends and sent them E-mails. Thank our institute for giving us such an opportunity! ——Li Yifan(Psy)  (Wang Shuang Institute of International Education)
