ASIC Design Laboratory Set up and Put into Use
Release time:2015-12-15

ASIC Design Laboratory, primarily used by Department of Embedded System Engineering for teaching some core courses as, "Digital System Testing and Testability Design", "VLSI Circuit Design", "Mixed-Circuit Design", "CMOS Analog Integrated Circuit Design", " EDA Technology in Designing Integrate Circuit”. The laboratory plays a key role in helping students to develop their abilities in designing embedded chip, especially in designing ASIC. It is also a laboratory for practical semester training and graduate design, as well as a platform for teachers to improve their research abilities. Students can grasp the entire ASIC design flow and become an independent ASIC designer by learning this international advanced design software. The establishment of this national top ten, world-class teaching laboratory makes great contribution to the construction of Electronic Information Engineering, and will greatly improve our level in major building and the competitiveness of our graduates.      ASIC Design Laboratory, primarily used by Department of Embedded System Engineering for teaching some core courses as, "Digital System Testing and Testability Design", "VLSI Circuit Design", "Mixed-Circuit Design", "CMOS Analog Integrated Circuit Design", " EDA Technology in Designing Integrate Circuit”. Considering from their features and functions, as well as their support to universities, we finally chose Synopsys and Mentor. Both of them have a complete set of tools in designing IC, including front-end design and back-end design. Synopsys tools have a full set of 37 software, Mentor has 29 software, and they are complimentary to each other. The market price (for commercial use) is over 10 million U.S. dollars.      From January 11 to 16, two senior engineers of Mentor Corporation from Beijing came to our institute to install the software and conduct training; from May 31-June 3, June 9 to 11, another two senior engineers sent by Synopsys from Shanghai and Taiwan to install the software and conduct training. Teachers and students from Department of Embedded Systems Engineering, led by the dean of their department, Professor Sun Xiaoling took part in the training. Teachers said that the goal of training had basically achieved, and the understanding and application of ASIC goes further. Quick response and technical support through phone or network was committed by software vendors in our future teaching works. (Yang Tao from R&D Center)
