Our institute positively organized summer vocation social practical activities

Recently, 2009 National English Contest for College Students (NECCS) Liaoning Provincial Finals ended in Dalian University of Foreign Languages. Yuan Lu, student in Class Software 07501 of our institute ( whose director – Teacher Wang Lijun), won the Special Prize in this contest and was invited to attend the total finals and 2009 NECCS Camp held in the period of Jul31st – Aug 5th in Xi"an, capital of Shanxi province; Besides, another four students from our institute won the 1st prize in the contest and the list of winners was as follows:
NECCS was the only national comprehensive English ability contest for college students issued by Ministry of Education, aiming to carry on English teaching reform policy of Ministry of Education, motivate college students" interest in English study, as well as to improve their English level. The preliminary contests were held by local universities and produced national the 2nd and 3rd prizes directly; finals were organized by Liaoning province and produced the 1st prizes and the Special prize. In the NECCS preliminary contest held in our institute on Apr 9th , 852 students in total attended and all the candidates completed the test with the concept of honesty and fairness. Finally, twelve of them achieved 2nd prizes and twenty-four for 3rd prizes.
College students’ social practice was an extension of college education to after-curriculum education. It was not only an access to enhance college students’ creativity, practice competence, employment ability and thought quality, but also a good way for college students to put knowledge into practice and pay back society.
As an IT college with more than 10 thousand students, Dalian Neusoft Institute of Information paid constant attention to the combination of students’ theoretical level and practical competence, and devoted to foster their both the professional techniques and comprehensive qualities. We utilized summer and winter vocations to guide students walk out of campus and step into the society. By organizing various types of social research and social practice, we gently formed our social practice system with fresh specialty of college students bringing scientific, literary and medical services to countryside, industry investigation and social research, scientific and technical innovation project study, employment internship and career carving, as well as various social volunteering activities. Now almost 30,000 students had benefited from these programs.
This summer vocation, in order to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the New China, and guide youth students to deeply study scientific development view, understand national conditions and accept education, our institute’s League Branch made a call to all the college students for the subject of “Youth Contributions for Motherland’s Birthday, Practical Research for Harmony”, and they also made an extensive propaganda through internet, radio, and posters to encourage students to develop various types of social practices in a way of a combination of group practice and individual practice. Students responded positively and they actively took part in the activities, and organized and applied for twenty social practical teams, as well as more than sixty branch teams, research groups and volunteering service teams. Among of them, there were science and technology lobby who connected their computer majors and volunteered to teach in countryside, and research teams that walked into IT enterprises and explored current industry developing situation and prospect; there were service teams that jointed with local communities , offering help for the elderly persons of no family and handicapped children, and also professional teams that participated in science and technique contests and Institute Subject Study.
Moreover, concerning the hard situation of graduates’ employment and the intention to improve students’ practical ability and professional skills, the whole institute acted together and positively set up on and off-campus internship platforms. One hand, our institute combined more than ten training schools to provide training opportunities for students, and organized students to take part in career experiences and project internship; on the other hand, we utilized the advantageous resources of on-campus training platform to develop five directions’ project training. According to the process of project development, professional directors taught students through practical case study. And this teaching method assisted students to get familiar to working process, be able to pre-enter program-development condition and increase their employment competence.
