Heads and Secretaries of the Party Branches of the departments, officers of SOVO, mentors of the SOVO companies as well as professional teachers attended. In conformity to the guidelines of the TOPCARES-CDIO reform of the institute, SOVO restructured their companies by introducing fresh operative approaches and business models. Requirements have it that the companies have to defend themselves without fail on their business plans before moving into the SOVO. The companies will find it a must to run like real-world enterprises with an enhanced consciousness of management and the emphasis on cost efficiency and budget-making. The students in SOVO, whilst they are imparted to professional expertise, can experience the operation procedures and the business models of a modern enterprise in a real and comprehensive fashion. 28 would-be companies attended the defending, outlining their basic information, explaining their business concepts and scenarios in answering questions from the judges who gave scores. Conducted in a serious, tense yet lively atmosphere, the defending centered around the companies’ business models, the methods of improving the staff’s qualities, the abilities students were supposed to practice and strengthen, SOVO’s integration with curricula construction as well as the combination of learning and practice. The judge panel affirmed the companies with full preparations and rendered guidance to those with less experience or preparations. It was the school leaders’ hope that the SOVO companies, under the concept of TOPCARES-CDIO, could run in the business model of modern enterprise. In the meantime, they should highlight the educational features of the institute by upgrading the individuals’ qualities, particularly their social competence and professional capabilities in an effort to make more contributions to the educational reform drive of the institute at large. At the conclusion of defending at 22:00 on Mar, 22, Vice President Wang reiterated in his summary that the SOVO companies must be placed on stricter requirements for entry. The students must be nurtured in their practical abilities and hands-on capabilities, more importantly, their capacities of management and solving problems, organizational and communicative abilities, as well as those to work on a team so that they could build up the valuable experience in practice to be more competitive in employment. In a larger sense, the institute could turn out more practical talented people of high quality that are adapted to the development of the industries they would be in. (Tong Lin, SOVO)
