All the Details in Getting a Job
Zhou Lei, “Double Role” teacher from Dalian Ocean University, and Mr Wang, senior manager from Bo Han Software Co.Ltd. cited an example of Large Job Fair of Dalian held on March 6, analyzed the current employment situation with simple language. Zhou Lei said, “There will be about 630,000 graduates this year, but only a few of them can get a job. The requirement “1 to 3 years of work experience” in the most recruitment information has become a stumbling block to those fresh graduates. This is not a harsh requirement to keep students from getting a job, but a requirement for students to take part in activities more actively, to learn from practice, to learn to do.Meanwhile, Mr Wang talked about the resume practically. He said that the résumé should better be short and simple. The resume with one’s awards and ability honestly listed could be most impressive to interviewers. Besides, “Students should attach great importance to career choice and career planning, choose those career suited to themselves and have developmental potentials. Career is a marathon with no gun, no referees, no timetable, not even the runway "said Mr. Wang.
Interview Mentoring to Build Confidence
To get over the psychology of panic or sense of loss in interviews with the HR for a position, would-be graduates made a simulated attempt of being interviewed with established professionals. The General Manager from DLXP (a well-renowned local wine-making corporation), the general superintendent from Metlife Dalian Branch, the general manager from Dalian Hongchengweiye Management and Consultation Co., Ltd. as well as Deputy General Manager from Dalian Branch of Heng Yuan Xiang Group came to the students’ help. Two candidates from the Department of Computer Science and Technology and the English Department gained access, going through the ordeal watched by 300-odd students. Respective comments were made by the above-mentioned interviewers. The General Manager from Hongchengweiye, in particular, remarked that the students’ performance was handcuffed by canned thinking. Mechanical application of established approaches to problems or questions could backfire on own edges. It was recommended that the students strike a reasonable balance between written preparations and impromptu performance by not excessively counting on written materials. In the course of the interview, said the commentator, many students appeared too nervous or intimidated, as a result of which they sounded illogical and incoherently.
Ms. Chen from Metlife threw in an additional perspective to the effect that students should, in applying for marketing positions, bear in mind that attitude and psychology were two top concerns for evaluation. Marketing businesses, according to her, opened their arms to candidates with tenacity who would not beat a retreat easily facing tough situations. She suggested that students on campus should work hard at some practical skills like a foreign language so as to be granted the stamp of approval to a noted enterprise.
Exemplary Guidance to Bring out a True Self
In the last link of the meeting, students raised questions to the invited guests to be enlightened on their misunderstandings and myths in job-hunting. The General Manager from DLXP, in answering questions, stated that everyone should harbor a rational outlook of employment and try to find a suitable foothold for themselves. Meanwhile, they should be fully aware of their own merits and be confident in their chosen goals to gain success. He expressed hope that students could lean more about themselves and readjust the mentality of employment by realizing that techniques were not fundamentals. Rather, they were supposed to rely more on their strengths and make continued endeavors on employment, regarding working positions as realms for further study.
The curtain fell to the loud applause of the students after four hours of communication with the students kept attentive all through. The meeting was in good order and in heated atmosphere. The attending enterprises were likewise satisfied with the organization and the spot effects.
It is known that, as a follow-up act, the students present would share their experience of the meeting with more green hands in job-hunting from 18:00 to 20:00 on Mar. 26.
