From CDIO to the Practical Teaching Reform of Japanese Department

    On the afternoon of Oct 16th, Japanese Department held the workshop on the theme of from CDIO to the Practical Teaching Reform of Japanese Department. This meeting took the comprehensive project training as the example and summarized the results of practical teaching reforms. The meeting was held by Wang Yu, Deputy Dean of Japanese Department, and all the Department teachers attended the meeting. In addition, Vice president, professor Cao Yunfeng, Professor Zhang Wei and Dean of Academic Affairs Department, Liu Hui, were present at the meeting.     First of all, Zheng Zhong, Deputy Dean of Japanese Dept., introduced the talent cultivation target under the concept of CDIO of Japanese Dept, and indicated till now the whole department had always been performing the reform in this way and made a satisfactory step. He emphasized that how to construct the Japanese Department’s CDIO teaching model and continue to further teaching reform would be the focus of their future work. The reform was embodied as follows: emphasize to regard students as centers and let students learn from practice; teachers as assistance as well as teaching while learning; and meanwhile, promote running school in an open way and strengthen international cooperation; go on carrying out practical conversation course reform. Then, Teacher Zheng Zhong took comprehensive project training as the example introducing the practical teaching situation in terms of the education concept of Japanese Department, curriculum system, teaching methodology, quality control and management. He also pointed out the subject of future teaching reform of Japanese Department.     Japanese comprehensive projects practical training is under the guide of CDIO engineering academic concept of Japanese Department and imitated the engineering practical training model. It was a practical subject and teachers took a few typical sectors such as IT industry, trade fair, tourism and hotels as the example and encouraged students to utilize all their knowledge learned in these three years to understand and practice in person. Experienced Japanese export, teacher Akio Ohtani, was mainly responsible to construct this course and edit textbook for it. This course emphasized project-conveyor and practice-guide, and meanwhile intended to foster students’ practical ability, which was the first in Dalian city even in the whole national Japanese education practical field. Then, teachers who were involved into this course introduced their feelings and evaluations in terms of teaching experiences, personal understanding and practices on CDIO education concept, as well as true reviews of class teaching scenes.     After listening to the teachers’ reports, Vice President Cao and Zhang delivered speeches respectively and gave full affirmation to the work of Japanese Department. And Vice President Cao summarized for the practical education results with 1321 ( master one process: teaching process in Practical Semester; highlight three qualities:comprehensibility, diversity and practicability; carry out two combinations: the combination of practical training contents and teaching contents and the combination of industry, teaching and research; realize one target: stick closely to the training of professional techniques). At last, he pointed out that the teaching of Japanese Department was under the concept of CDIO and scientific organization. It took the comprehensive projects as the carrier and practical training as the measures. All the work were targeted on talents training. President Zhang set a high value on the Japanese Department’s performance in terms of CDIO and especially praised them for their good utilizing data to work and their serious working attitude of keeping teaching documents. Meanwhile, he showed his unique and profound perspective and hoped all the teachers in Japanese Department could discuss together how to achieve balance between standardization of stories’ plots and the interests of students.     Finally, Wan Yu, Deputy Dean of Japanese Department, and Wang Zhengjun, Secretary of Party Committee of Japanese Department put forward their expectation and requirements respectively on how to deepen the CDIO concept, improve the whole teaching level and strengthen class management, etc.     The successful opening of this conference again unified the thoughts of all faculty, made clear the practical teaching reform direction based on CDIO concept, and set off a new upsurge of studying CDIO, the advanced educational concept. The meeting clarified that Japanese Department had constructed a sound practical education system with concept internship, technique internship, project internship, and the following work emphasis should be put on how to carry on detailed practical education reform and how to realize other courses’ reform in way of “from point to side” and put practical education teaching concept and model into every process of the total teaching procedures.
