I know that you have spent your summer vacation with great expectations, looking forward to receiving your own "Admission Package" earlier. On this day with admission notice and campus map in hand, you hope to find your own university road looking forward to “meeting a better yourself." At this moment we finally met in DNUI. This school and people here are closely connected with you in the future. Here are mainstream and cutting-edge courses, a variety of innovative practice and lively campus cultural life; she is full of the power of the dream with innovation and integration of both technology and humanities. I'm not sure whether the image of DNUI is as perfect as you have expected, but I believe she will definitely accompany you to spend your youthful days with the most sincere and warmest feelings of love.      

I also know that you will start your college life which makes you uneasy and doubt in your heart after the excitement and joy. From primary to secondary school, the definition of "success" is very simple, namely, being admitted to a good university. Globalization has made the world smaller and more convenient to obtain information, and even university courses are available through the Internet without the limitations of time and space, which helps to inherit the human civilization and the wisdom - "academic knowledge" is becoming increasingly easy. However, this time is also impetuous and noisy, a lot of people abandon the truth for the immediate fame and fortune and just have a smattering of knowledge believing in “Uselessness of Study" -"Truth-seeking Refinement" is becoming increasingly difficult. Zhuge Liang said in “Admonishing His Son" to cultivate his character by keeping a peaceful mind, and nourish his morality by a frugal living. We should always have a grateful heart and remember the source of blessings”. Thanks for your parents’ bringing up, being grateful to your teachers who help you to indicate the direction of growth, being thankful for this time full of dreams of power that you can have more opportunities and greater courage to find more happiness in your life. During a speech at Stanford University when Jack Ma said that good luck is vital for Alibaba. All these luck come from customers, from the Internet, from China, from everyone’s efforts of Ali. He is very thankful for the times, the Internet, China, and everyone who gave him help. Fighting out from hardships to becoming a world celebrity, he also knows the truth: you have to respect others if you want to be respected; you have to help others succeed if you hope to be successful. Some people have called him "the richest man", but it seems to him that "the richest man is being responsible and is the first one to take responsibility.”      

Be adept in thinking, and keep cultural inheritance and innovation. At college, it is important to get a satisfactory grade for each course; however, it is more important to improve your comprehensive ability and quality. Thinking independently is the most important ability which should be cultivated at college. That is the ability how to deal with a specific problem based on acquired knowledge, one’s own critical thinking, evidence-based analysis, logical reasoning. The ultimate purpose for college education is to cultivate the reflective ability: being diligent in thinking, willing to think, dare to criticize and question, open-minded, good at self-examination and self-motivation. Reflective ability can also help to establish a correct outlook on life, values, and self-recognition, and to understand the relationship with others and the society. Reflective thinking may result in good learning: to grasp the scientific method of learning and to get the knowledge and skills. Good learning then lead to good using: to combine reflective thinking, experience with the book-learned knowledge, and then to develop into one’s own individual behavior and habits. To become a successful person, one should carry forward the “reflective thinking, good learning and good using” at college. By thinking, learning, and using, one can acquire knowledge as well as realize innovation and creation.       

Be devoted and dare to dream and to realize. In the Xidi Viliage of Liuerpu Town of Liaoyang County, there is a primary school named Xidi Primary School. In the school, there is a multi-media classroom named after Dalian Neusoft University of Information, which was founded by Zhao Hongyu, the first secretary of the Xidi Village as well as a graduate of our school in 2008. When he arrived in the village, it was hard for Zhao Hongyu to carry out work for lack of experience. However, he always has a dream bearing in mind—that is to serve the people wholeheartedly and better their lives. He wandered around in the village to know more about the people’s lives. He helped the student with food and oil, whose father had lost the ability to work and mother had worked in other places. He gave financial aid to the needy family who cannot even afford the medicine of 10 yuan. He traveled extensively to seek funding for an elder lady from the low-income family to maintain the dilapidated housing. He built a Cultural Square, repaired roads, and renovate water supply project etc. in the village. Xidi Primary School is the only elementary school in the village, whose education condition is very underdeveloped. Zhao Hongyu wished to give computer classes to the students in that school, but he was frequently refused when he was looking for contributors. He later wrote to our school and expressed his wish in the letter. Soon with the help from his alma mater, 32 computers were sent to the multimedia classroom       

Compared with the great events that made the world change, what Zhao Hongyu had done seems ordinary. However, everything he did is closely related to the welfare of two thousand villagers. In my opinion, he has a "heart of devotion". Just as discussed in one of the four ancient Chinese books “Great Learning”, the expression “investigation of things, the extension of knowledge, sincerity, sacred hearts, self-cultivation, family regulation, ruling the state and uniting the world" is such the realm of life. There are many Neusoft graduates like Zhao Hongyu who can acquire knowledge, well conduct character, and stick to and struggle for their dreams. The most important thing is that their dream is to realize other people's dreams—such kind of dream is a kind of devotion as well as “Great Learning”. While helping Neusoft students with their dreams is what DNUI is always adhering to—also a dream.        

Just as Mr. Jiang Menglin, a famous educator has once said: "ideal, hope, and will are the most important factors in determining a person's life.” Today, when you enter into Neusoft, you are supposed to look for an ideal, cling to a hope, establish a will and finish your college life seriously rather than going through like a passenger. You are also supposed to observe and sense the world, which can tell you a lot of things you cannot learn in the ivory tower. Just as the British philosopher Whitehead said: “Secondary school students should be learning at his desk; while college students should stand up and learn something around.” In a short period of time at university, you must understand that what you have known about outside in the past is a small world. There is still a wider world, which you should find its joy, nutrition and fruit in person.
