In December 2014, Young Volunteers Association of our university carried out a charity sale of apples, the peace fruits that Chinese people call them on Christmas Eve, which are provided by Dalian (Ci Li) Lion Federation. The money raised by the charity sale will be given to a child called Wang Hailong, suffered from leukemia. In August 2012, he was diagnosed as having acute lymphoblastic leukemia. During a year and a half, his family has spent more than 300,000 yuan, for his chemotherapy treatment once a week. His parents came from Shandong and are currently working on a construction site in Development Zone of Dalian. The sudden misfortune made his less affluent family even worse. Our students enthusiastically participated in the whole process of sale organized by Young Volunteers Association, from delivering, packing to distributing of apples. Finally a total of 1485 apples were sold and then the money raised amounts to 7425 yuan. In December 28, Young Volunteers Association of our university was invited by Dalian Ocean University to attend the donation ceremony of the charity sale of apples. Wang Hailong’s mother also came to the ceremony. A total of more than 45,000 yuan was raised by eight universities in Dalian, namely Dalian University of Information, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian Maritime University, Dalian Polytechnic, Dalian Jiaotong University, Dalian Medical University, Dalian Institute of Technology, and Dalian Ocean University. Wang Hailong’s mother was moved to tears when volunteers handed the money to her.
