Dalian Neusoft University of Informationis a non-governmental institute of higher learning approved by the NationalMinistry of Education and invested by Neusoft Group. In 2000, approved by theDepartment of Education of Liaoning Province, Dalian Oriental InformationTechnology Training Institute was established and became Dalian Branch ofNortheastern University's Network Education Institute to start theundergraduate program via network; in 2001, after approval of the LiaoningProvincial Government, Dalian Oriental Information Technology TrainingInstitute was transformed into Dalian Neusoft Vocational College of InformationTechnology to carry out vocational education; in 2003 the school was identifiedby the Ministry of Education as one of the first 35 state-level demonstrationsoftware vocational and technical colleges, and became chairman of the dean’sjoint conference; in 2004, it became the Northeastern University’s independentcollege -- Northeastern University Neusoft Institute of Information, to carryout full-time undergraduate education; in 2008, it was transferred to anindependent private undergraduate college -- Dalian Neusoft University ofInformation, becoming one of the country's first four independent collegestransferred.
Located in the beautiful coastal city ofDalian, the school is in the core area of Dalian Software Park. It covers anarea of 905 mou (about 150 acres) and has a total construction area of 399,000square meters. It currently has more than 14,000 students and nearly 800 formalstaff. The school now has 15 teaching institutions and covers 4 disciplineswhich are engineering, management, arts and literature. There are 28 undergraduatemajors in DNUI and its enrollment covers 29 provinces and cities. Meanwhile,there are three vocational majors with admissions to students in 15 provincesand cities.
At the beginning of its establishment in2000, the school has clearly defined its application orientation which servesthe industry and regional economic development. During the 17 years’ time,based on the concept that “Education creates the value of students”, the schoolhas established the education system that integrates production with teaching,and is oriented towards application. It has formed an operating mechanism thatcombines school-enterprise cooperation and win-win cooperation. It also hascreatively put forward and implemented the TOPCARES integrated training modeand has accumulated over 40,000 graduates for the society. Since 2013, theannual employment rate has been above 95%, and the quality of personneltraining has been widely recognized by employers and all walks of life. In 2015and 2017, the school became one of the first 10 pilot universities and thefirst 10 model universities which have carried out the transformation topractice-oriented universities in Liaoning Province.
Since its establishment, the school haswon 27 provincial or higher teaching achievement awards, including: onenational first prize and one provincial-level special prize in 2005; onenational second prize and two provincial first prizes in 2009; and fourprovincial first prizes in 2013. Among the current undergraduate majors in theschool, there is one national-level undergraduate comprehensive reform pilotmajor, four provincial-level comprehensive reform pilot majors, two provincial-level first batchof advantage and specialty majors, two provincial-level engineering talentstraining reform pilot majors, two provincial-level key support majors,one provincial-level first batch of pilot practice-oriented transition major,one undergraduate curriculum system internationalization pilot major, twoprovincial innovation and entrepreneurship education pilot major, threeprovincial-level demonstration major for practice-oriented transition. In thecomprehensive evaluation of undergraduate programs carried out in universitiesin Liaoning province for the three years of 2012-2014, seven of the elevenmajors participated in the evaluation were listed in the top 3 in the province.
In 2002, the school established theStudent Office & Venture Office (SOVO) and registered a trademark in theState Administration for Industry and Commerce to explore the integration ofinnovation and entrepreneurship education into the entire personnel trainingprocess. At present, it has become the demonstration school of entrepreneurshipeducation in Liaoning Province, the first batch of undergraduateentrepreneurship incubation demonstration bases, the first batch of collegestudents' innovation and entrepreneurship education practice bases, and thefirst batch of undergraduate entrepreneurial project breeding bases; in March2016, it was approved by the Torch Center of the Ministry of Science andTechnology as the crowd making space, and in August, the school was accreditedas one of the first 50 colleges and universities with typical experience ininnovation and entrepreneurship by the Ministry of Education; in February 2017,it was awarded as one of the first 99 model universities nationwide withdeepening innovation and entrepreneurship education by the Ministry ofEducation; in January 2018, it was selected for the third batch of nationalcolleges and universities bases for practical education and innovation &entrepreneurship.
Based on its own advantages indisciplines, DNUI actively carries out application research and development andtechnology services. In recent years, the school won three projects from theNational Natural Science Foundation of China, three projects from the YouthScience Foundation, three projects from the Humanities and Social Sciences byMinistry of Education, and four national projects from the school andenterprise alliances; it also won 28 patents, three integrated circuit layoutdesigns, 73 computer software copyrights, five software product registration certificates,two output registration certificates, five trademarks; six science andtechnology progress awards above the municipal level were granted, among whichone item won the first prize of scientific and technological progress inLiaoning Province; 137 dissertations won the award of natural academic papersat or above the municipal level. The school has got one "Key Laboratory ofPublishing and Integration Development" approved by the StateAdministration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, threeprovincial-level key laboratories, one provincial-level engineering andtechnology research center, one Provincial Key Laboratory of Educational andDigital Publication, one provincial-level collaborative innovation base forcolleges joined by industrial clusters, one innovation team, and one keylaboratory and two engineering and technology research centers of Dalian City.
The school adheres to open education andinternational cooperation. At present, it has established friendly andcooperative relations with nearly 90 foreign universities including San JoseState University, University of Queensland, Australia, Loughborough University,UK, Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan, Konkuk University, Korea, and MoscowTransit University of Russia. There are many kinds of cooperation, includingoverseas academic education, cross-cultural projects, and exchange studentprograms. Every year, there are more than 300 overseas students coming in foreither a long or short term, and about 150 DNUI students going abroad for studyor short-term exchanges.
Over the years, the school has beenhonored by the provincial and municipal governments as provincial civilizeduniversity, provincial peace and safety demonstration campus, provincialadvanced unit for the creation of spiritual civilization, the city’s advancedparty committee, the city’s outstanding contribution unit in software andservice outsourcing industry, and the city’s industrial science and educationtourism demonstration unit; has been accredited as the Excellent University ofCivilian-run Higher Education by industry associations, research associations,etc.; has won the Special Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Party Buildingand Special Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Ideological and Politicalwork in “Party Construction and Ideological and Political Work in PrivateColleges and Universities across China”. In “China’s Top 100 PrivateUniversities in Terms of Overall Performance by Wu Shulian”, DNUI was ranked7th in 2016 and 8th in 2017. The school has been rated by the Xinhuanet,China.com, Sohu, Sina, Tencent and other media for many years as "China'sInfluential Private Universities," "China's Top Ten Privately-ownedBrand Name Universities," "China's Most Powerful PrivateUniversities," "Typical Innovative and EntrepreneurialUniversities," etc.
On June 28, 2017, Premier Li Keqiangvisited DNUI to inspect and encourage the school to play a supporting role inthe Northeastern China’s transition.
