Dalian City islocated on the east coast of the Eurasian, the southernmost of LiaodongPeninsula in Northeast China, at 181°53' to 125°46' east longitude, and 38°43'to 43°26' north latitude. It lies with Yellow Sea to the east, Bohai Sea to thewest, Shandong Peninsula to the south across the sea and the vast NortheastChina Plain lies to the north. The city serves as a gateway to the sea, linkingNortheast China, North China, East China, and the world, and is an importantcity for its port, as well as for trade, industry and tourism. The total areaof the city is 12,574 square kilometers, of which the old urban area is 2415square kilometers. With more hilly areas, less plains, the whole terrain ishigh in the north and low in the south, wide in the north and narrow in thesouth. Terrain inclined from the central axis to the southeast, Yellow Sea andBohai Sea to the northwest. The side facing the Yellow Sea is long and slow.
Dalian is located in the warm temperate zone of thenorthern hemisphere. It features temperate continental monsoon climate with awarm winter, a cool summer and four distinctive seasons. Dalian receives annualsunlight radiation ranging from 2500 to 2800 hours with annual averagetemperature 10.5 C and annual rainfall 550mm to 950mm.
Dalianhas jurisdiction over three county-level cities (Wafangdian , Pulandian City,Zhuanghe), a county (Changhai) and 6 regions (Zhongshan, Xigang, Shahekou,Ganjingzi, Lvshunkou, Jinzhou) .There are, in addition, three national leadingopen zones such as Development Zone, Free Trade Zone, and Hi-Tech IndustrialZone,ChangxingIsland Harbor Industrial Zone and Huayuankou Economic Zone.
